The Prophet Ezekiel, a contemporary with Zechariah, describes a similar scenario at the time of the end in which the Lord of hosts gives Ezekiel a vision about a plain of Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37) in which He will resurrect these bones as a literal physical people. Then the Lord states, “Man, these bones are the whole people of Israel.” (Ezekiel 37:11)

We must keep in mind, the God of Israel is interested in redeeming and restoring all the tribes of Israel, not just the Tribe of Judah. The Islamic argument with the Jews is a family argument of who had the rights, the oldest son, Ishmael, by Keturah the Egyptian or the youngest son Isaac, by Princess Sarah, for the physical and spiritual inheritance (“blessings”) of Patriarch Abraham. The Gentile Christian Catholic and Protestant argument with the Jews is who has the rights for blessing of redemption and restoration, the “Physical Israelite” descendants the Jews or the “Spiritual Israelite” descendants, the Christian followers of Roman Christianized Jesus.

The Roman Destruction of the Temple – 70 CE

If the prophecy of Ezekiel is read in its literal “pshat” interpretation, the prophecy of the “Dry Bones” has only partially been fulfilled, with the restoration of modern Israel, but the entire House of Israel has never been restored. Then the Lord of hosts gave Ezekiel another Oracle, about the “Two Sticks”, one stick being the House of Judah and the other stick the House of Israel, referred to as “for Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel…” (Ezekiel 37:17)

When the Jewish people living in exile in Babylon inquired about the meaning of these two sticks, the Lord of hosts told him to tell them;

Ezekiel 37:21-23 (parts) - “Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land, and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again….I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.”

The most descriptive scene of the nations fighting against Jerusalem is found in the book of Revelation. The sixth Trumpet (Revelation 9:13-21) Angel is associated with letting loose the four angels ‘bound in the great river Euphrates” (vs. 14) and the coming of the 2 million army (horsemen) in which a third of all mankind are killed.

Revelation 9:13-16 (6^th Trumpet Plague) – “Then the sixth angel sounded: And I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, saying to the sixth angel had who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great River Euphrates.” So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind. Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them.”

Associate this with the sixth Vial plague Angel (Revelation 16:2-16), who pours his vial on the Euphrates River, so “the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.”

Revelation 16:12-16 (6^th Bowl Plague) - “Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great River Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of the God Almighty.”

Whereas this verse (Zechariah 12:1) states, “I (HaShem) will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem”, Revelation 16:14 states that the “Spirits of Devils” are the agents working with the kings of the earth, to “gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty…in a place called in the Hebrew tongue, Armageddon.”

Again, Redak brings the battle of Gog/Magog, which we are beginning to see in the context of the escalation of a regional war. See Ezekiel 39:2.

Zechariah 14:2a - The city shall be taken,

The housed rifled,

And the women ravished.

Prior battles against Israel and Jerusalem, the city is spared by the hand of the Lord, yet this time during the battle of Armageddon, the city of Jerusalem is captured, and half of the population is taken into captivity, the houses ransacked apparently for valuables and the woman are ravaged or raped...

Zechariah 14:2b - Half of the city shall go into captivity,

But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

The remnant left of Israel and Jerusalem will not be destroyed. This could be upwards to half of the city’s population. That is half of the city’s population that is left after all the other disasters and killings.

Again, I have to take issue with this describing the fall of JEWISH Jerusalem, mainly because Hashem “manifests” on the Mount of Olives, which is in the EASTERN half of the city, which is almost TOTALLY Palestinian. So the half of the city that goes into “captivity” is PALESTINIAN. However, this is not the traditional understanding of this passage. The Redak says this is the “time of Jacob’s trouble” prophesied in Daniel 12:1 and half of the city of Jerusalem DOES fall. He also brings Isaiah 26:20. However, the Redak says this will be a temporary setback and Israel will overpower their enemies – with the help of Hashem.

The Two Witnesses

Let us now compare this Battle of Armageddon with Revelation’s account of the Two Witnesses. (Revelation 11) Noting that our interpretation of time in the book of Revelation is literal (a day = a day), therefore 42 months is equal to 3 ½ years.

The two witnesses appear to lead the remnant of the saints using the same miraculous powers that Elijah and Moses did in the olden days. The powers of Elijah include, ‘fire proceeds form their mouths and devour their enemies’, and power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the day of their prophecy. (3 ½ years) (Revelation 11: 5-6)

The powers of Moses (Moshe) include ‘powers over water to turn them to blood and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.” (Revelation 11:6)

During the 42 months of the two witnesses, the ‘court, which is outside the Temple… has been given to the gentiles and they will tread the Holy City underfoot for forty-two months.’ (Revelation 11:2), yet it does not say that the Temple is given to the Gentiles. At the end of the 42 months, the testimony of the two witnesses is completed, the Earth Beast from the Abyss will ‘make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. (Revelation 11:8)

For 3½ days, the two witnesses corpses will lie exposed in the streets within the city of Jerusalem (spiritually called Sodom and Egypt, but where also our Lord was crucified (Revelation 11:8). Jerusalem, Hashem’s capital city in this solar system, is now under the control of the Antichrist. With total control of the whole earth, the Antichrist now prepares the forces of Armageddon to battle against Yahshua.

Here the forces of Armageddon marshaled in the city of Jerusalem (from peoples, tribes tongues and nations, (Revelation 11: 9) have a public celebration on the capture of Hashem’s city and the death of Hashem’s two mighty witnesses.

Suddenly, a ‘loud voice from heaven (Revelation 11:11) resurrects the two witnesses while the vast multitude of Armageddon’s forces about the city watch in awe, fear and amazement. Like Christ, the two witnesses will ascend to heaven, in a cloud.

At this same time, deep seismic forces beneath the Temple of HaShem begin to rumble. This earth shifting will come from the same faults that shook on the death of Yahshua about 30 CE. Seven thousand are killed in this local quake. (Revelation 11:13)

When does this all occur? It will occur at the end of the 6^th Trumpet plague (Revelation 9:13-21) and the end of the 6^th Vial plague (Revelation16: 12-14), for they are one in the same. The Trumpet Plagues depict the same events from an earthly perspective while the Vial Plagues depict the same events from a heavenly perspective. How do we know this time sequence, for it states in Revelation 11:15, ‘then the seventh angel sounded.” (Compare with after the 6^th Trumpet Plague (Revelation 10:7), after the 6^th Vial Plague (Revelation 16:7), and upon the resurrection of the two witnesses (Revelation 11:15). This is the Great Parousia, the Second Coming of Jesus (Yehoshua).

Conclusion: For 3 ½ years, during what we call the “Time of God’s Wrath, the City of Jerusalem stands intact. This is after the Sealing of God (6^th Seal) and the Mark of the Beast. This is also during the Trumpet Plagues and the Vial Plagues, which we feel are the same event, which occur during the last 3½ years. This is the time of the two witnesses. This could also be after the Abomination of Desolation in Daniel 9:27, which occurs in the midst of the week (3½ years).

Yet, on the Temple Mount noted as the outer court of the Temple (Revelation 11:1), is under the control of the Gentiles. (Jesuit controlled Vatican in an alliance with the U.N. or the final One World Government) Yet, the Temple is appears remains under the control of HaShem. How do we know this? It says:

Revelation 11:1 - “An angel measures this Temple, the altar and those who worship there.

Yes, a temple will be here and the Jewish people will be worshipping there. Here at this Tribulation Temple, the Jewish people are worshipping and their spiritual power will be measured by the Lord of hosts while the two witnesses use the powers of HaShem to protect God’s chosen people.

At the end of the ages, within days of the coming of Christ, the Armageddon forces have now surrounded the city of Jerusalem. And the beast (earth beast or the Antichrist), who was allowed to wage war on God’s people, and to defeat them,” (Revelation 13:7) and also to make war against the two witnesses, (Revelation 11:7) Elijah (Micah 4:5) and Moses, will now be in control of HaShem’s city, Jerusalem, the Temple (House of HaShem, and the Temple Mount, celebrating the death of the two witnesses.

Within hours of Yahshua’s coming, the two witnesses are resurrected and taken up into the clouds, the ‘first fruits’ of the dead in Christ, which are resurrected.

The Fight for Jerusalem

Zechariah 14:3 - Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations,

As He fights in the day of battle.

The seventh trumpet has now sounded, the Messiah of Israel assumes his kingly vesture as “King of Kings & Lord of Lords” and with the forces of heaven (Revelation 19:10) comes to make war with the Beast, the False Prophet and the forces at Armageddon. The Earth Beast (Islam) and the kings of the earth, all part of the coalition of the One-World Government, and their armies will gather together to make war against him that sat on the throne and his army.” (Revelation 19:19)

Friends, there will be war and a lot of blood will be shed before it is over. Like HaShem ordered Saul to do with Agog and the forces of Amalek, so Yahshua will do with the forces of Armageddon. He will annihilate the last Amalek and the last Edomite completely. They will be wiped out entirely.

This is the reason the Lord invites the congregation of the carrion birds (vultures, hawks, and eagles) from around the world to “come and gather for God’s great supper; to eat the flesh of kinds and commanders and fighting, men, the flesh of horses, and their riders, the flesh of all men, salve and free, great and small.” Please note, women and children are not included, that is assuming they are not part of the fighting forces.

Later in Zechariah 14:16, we read:

Zechariah 14:16 - “All who survive of the nations which attack Jerusalem shall come up year by year to worship, the King, the Lord of Host, and to keep the pilgrims feast of Tabernacles.”

The fact that the nations wage war against Jerusalem is a M’dah that quickly merits the M’dah of Hashem waging war against those nations. As Kara states it, “their “victory” will signal their defeat, for Hashem shall go forth and wage war with them.” Rashi comments on the last part of the verse “like the day He waged war on the Red Sea” when Israel seemed defenseless.

Zechariah 14:4 - And in that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,

Which faces Jerusalem on the east.

Crustal Plate Boundaries on Earth

It is a common Christian perception that the Coming of Yahshua as the Messiah will be a coming in the clouds and all the saints will be caught up into the air to meet the Lord. Many have been warned that the signal event that the saints will know that this is the real coming is that Jesus will not touch the earth. What are we to do with this passage? Ignore it?

The remnant of the saints and the ‘dead in Christ’ who will ‘rise first’ are caught up into the air as they are changed to immortal beings. Here is the event in which we will be ‘changed in a twinkling of an eye’ into a ‘glorified body’. (I Corinthians 15: 51-52) The immortal saints will become “light beings” akin to the nature of Adam and Eve with the light, which shone around their bodies.

At the same time, another event is unfolding. The Lord, Yahshua, the Messiah will continue to move into our three dimensional world and touch down upon the same Mount in which he left after his resurrection. (Acts 1:12) This was told to the disciples by the two other-dimensional angelic visitors, after Yahshua ascended, “lifted up”, and “a cloud removed him from their sight.” (Acts 1:9), when they said, “this Yahshua, who has been taken away from you up to heaven, will come in the same way as you have seen him go.’ (Acts 1:11) When Yahshua promised that he would return, he meant a literal event, like a movie script running backwards.

I believe one must be careful not to PROOF TEXT a New Testament scripture or doctrine into this verse. The HIS, as in “HIS feet” refers to HASHEM in the previous verse and NOT to Yahshua. I won’t question that Yahshua MAY return on the Mount of Olives at some point, but Hashem’s feet here are “figurative for the manifestation of a wonder and miracle on the Mount of Olives.” Maimomides in his Guide to the Perplexed, volume one, chapters 13 and 28 explains that the “feet” represent the “cause.” It will be apparent, he writes, that G-d is the cause of the wonders that come about at that time. The Targum (Jonathan ben Uzziel) renders: “And He shall be revealed in His might at that time,” which the Redak also brings.

And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west,

Making a very large valley;

Half of the mountain shall move toward the north

And half of it toward the south.

The Hebrew MEYCHETZYO, is literally “from its half” which indicates that the split MAY be somewhere to the NORTH of the Eastern Gate, if the current dimensions of the MOUNT OF OLIVES are split into two parts. However, another section of the same mountain range lies south of the cemetery and is called THE HILL OF EVIL COUNSEL. It is the current site of the headquarters of the United Nations. In ancient times, it may also have been considered part of the Mount of Olives. In that event the division would be to the South of the Temple Mount.

The Mount of Olives

The 2 mile (3½ kilometers) long Mount of Olives is a flattened ridge series located just a few hundred yards (meters) east of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. It rises over 200 feet (60 meters) above the Kidron Valley which separates those two very significant places. This mount has been the scene of many significant events found in the Old and the New Testaments.

The Mount of Olives in the TaNaKh (Old Testament)

· King David fled over the Mount of Olives to escape from Absalom's rebellion (2 Samuel 15:30).

· After King Solomon became corrupt, he built pagan "high places" there (1 Kings 11:7).

· Later, King Josiah destroyed Solomon's idolatrous altars, by which time it had become known as the Hill of Corruption (2 Kings 23:13-14).

· Ezekiel had his vision of The Lord and the flying cherubim above it (Ezekiel 11:22-23).

· The people gathered olive branches there for the first Feast of Tabernacles after their return from The Babylonian Exile (Nehemiah 8:15).

The Mount of Olives in the Brit Hadassah (New Testament)

· Jesus regularly went up onto the Mount of Olives (Luke 22:39).

· He often traveled over it on His way to Bethany to visit His friend Lazarus. His famous Olivet prophecy is named after it (Matthew 24:1-51).

· The Triumphal Entry of Jesus riding on a Donkey and her colt into Jerusalem took place over and down the Mount of Olives (Luke 19:28-44).

· Jesus prayed with His disciples there just before His arrest That Fateful Night (Luke 22:39-46).

· Jesus was arrested there, during which Peter struck the servant of the high priest with a sword and cut off his ear (Luke 22:49-51).

· Jesus appeared to the disciples on the Mount of Olives after His Resurrection, and He ascended into heaven from there (Acts 1:1-12).

What we will be seeing is the separation of a massive fault, which goes across the Mount of Olives from the east to the west. Will this be a collision of continental plates, which is the massive force which causes mountain and island formation? No, rather it will be a separation of continental plates, which will occur at the seventh trumpet (the Coming of the Messiah), during the time in which “every island vanished; there was not a mountain to be seen.” (Revelation 16:20)

The Consoler on the Mount of Olives

One of the Jewish legends is that the “Consoler”, which in Hebrew is the word, Menahem is recognized as the Maschiach or Messiah of Israel. The Father of Menahem is called Amiel, meaning “My nation to God”. According to the legend, Menahem, the son of Amiel will appear to His people at the time of the end on the top of the Mount of Olives, standing before the gates of Jerusalem or the Eastern Gate. At this day, the exiles of Israel will aliyah (return) to the land of Israel and ascend to the Mount of the Lord and watch the redemption of Zion and Jerusalem.

Here the poet describes the coming of the Consoler, the Messiah.

In those days, at that time,
In the fifth month, the month of Av, [July/August]
The Pure, dressed in his robes of vengeance,
By his wrath the Mount of Olives will be cleft.
Messiah comes forth in his majesty,
As the sun shines in its strength.

1909 - A Modern Cleavage of a Mountain

Bullinger, E.W.- "...The cleaving in two of the Mount of Olives in Zechariah 14:4 is regarded by most commentators as being quite beyond a literal interpretation: and yet, a few years ago, The Illustrated London News gave some interesting drawings of the scene of the great volcanic eruption in the North Island, New Zealand. It will be remembered that the outburst of volcanic energy began by the explosion of Mount Tarawera, a mountain, which had no crater upon it, and showed no signs of recent activity. Tarawera was split in two by the sudden opening of a great chasm or line of craters four miles long, about 500 feet wide, and, in many places, 400 feet deep." The Return of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel

By Underground Tunnels to the Mount of Olives

zech14.jpg (76880 bytes) One of the first things that will come to the mind of the Orthodox Jew when dwelling on the coming of the Maschiach is the return of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. These tribes were separated from their blood relatives and their promised land about 702 BC when Sennacherib sent them into exile and put Jerusalem penned up like a bird in a bird-cage. These tribes have never been redeemed and their identity has been mostly lost to themselves and the rest of the world.

The Earthquake Fault at the Mount of Olives

The Midrash tells us that the Ten Tribes were exiled to three places: Some were exiled to the land behind the Sambatyon River. Another group was exiled to a distant land behind the River (this land was twice the distance from Israel than the first Land); the 3rd group was "swallowed in Rabbeslah."

This third group that was swallowed up will return by a very special route; in underground tunnels.

Yalkut Shimoni Yeshayah 469 - "G-d will make them underground tunnels and they will travel through them, until they reach the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. G-d will stand on the mount causing it to split and the Ten Tribes will emerge from within."

According to the rabbinic interpretation this Midrash points to a spiritual and a literal exile in which this group is totally lost or covered up. In time when the Maschiach returns, they will undergo a spiritual transformation that will be so sudden that it will appear that they will miraculously appear from the bowels of the earth.

The Ten Lost Tribes of Israel were taken into exile and literally "were swallowed" or that we do not know where they are. They themselves have lost their Israelite identity, as though they have been "swallowed" by a spiritual force. Their energy remains only in potential form. When Maschiach comes, the Lord of hosts will take them through tunnels (symbolizing the process of refinement). The Maschiach will then lead them to the Mount of Olives (a mountain which was (originally) dedicated to the growing of fruit a symbol of utilization of potential energy.) Finally the Mount of Olives will split, and they will emerge; their Jewish identity will re-emerge from the present state of "potential" and will be fully realized. Earthquake Fault line: the Escape Route to Azal

Zechariah 14:5a – Then you shall flee through My mountain valley,

For the mountain valley shall reach to Azal,

This valley will be specially prepared by the Lord, as an escape route for His Chosen People, the remnant, which remains in the land. Wherever Azal is, it is the final destination where the remnant of the House of Judah and Joseph will escape. Like the pathway through the Red Sea, HaShem will also prepare an escape route for His embattled people from the forces of the Antichrist at Armageddon.

The Targum Yonathan translates the Heb. “v’nastem gey harai” as “the valley of the mountains shall be stopped up.” Geographically and topically this is possible since there exists a valley between the mountains in the north and the Mount of Olives (the access from French Hill to the Dead Sea via Ma’ale Adumim). And there is a slight valley between the Mount of Olives as it is known today and the Hill of Evil Counsel, which is the way to get to the village of Bethany and the tomb of Lazarus. If the Mount of Olives slides into two parts north and south it will stop up both valleys. The valley formed by the split (measured from the two peaks of the Mount of Olives) will be very deep.

Rashi brings that AZAL is NOT a place name. It’s meaning is an expression of height as in Isaiah 41:9 “and from its nobles -- umey’AZILeyha . But the Redak brings it as a place name and says the valley formed by the crevice in the mountain shall reach further than the Mount of Olives, to the place name AZAL, which is well to the east of the Mount of Olives and is believed to be the place where the scapegoat was offered to AZALEL.

Some Christian commentators feel this is a figurative expression of Divine deliverance (I Corinthians 10:13) Yet this passage is equated with a very literal event in the great earthquake of Uzziah in 754 BCE. Recent archeological finds have suggested that the earthquake “in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel: (Amos 1:1) (c. 749-760 BC) may have been in a magnitude of 7.0 to 8.0 and higher. (Franz, Gordon, Institute of Holy Land Studies, Jerusalem, and Steve Austin, Institute of Creation Research, San Diego, The “Big One” Hits the Mediterranean: An Archaeological appraisal of the Earthquake in the days of King Uzziah.”) Once again we see the type meeting antitype, where the Uzziah earthquake is a prophetic mini-drama of end time eschatology.

Zechariah 4:5b - Yes, you shall flee

As you fled from the earthquake

In the days of Uzziah, king of Judah

This earthquake referred to is referred to in Isaiah 6:4 which caused the doorposts to shake when Uzziah was stricken with za’arat (translated leprosy) and also in the beginning of the book of Amos.,

Scholars equate other events in the world scene also to this 754/755 BCE earthquake. They include:

Catastrophic Fault Lines around Israel

· The earthquake of Uzziah, king of Judah in which he contracted leprosy and Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of Israel (Amos 1:1)

The leprosy at the time of Bocchoris/Bakenranef
The epidemic of plague as Ashur Dan III
The end of Iron Age IIB
The possibility that the Olympic Games were instituted at this time and not 776 B.C. The 160 year cycle associated with this event is exactly 3 x 53.154 years.
The era of King Pedubast I of Egypt
The sixth year of Pedubast I was also the twentieth year of Psusennes 1/Amenemope
The era of the foundation of Rome in which it was reported the sun was disrupted. Blood rained upon the city and a plague was widespread through the reign of Romulus. It is interesting to note that is the quotation, “his death occurred in the 54^th year of his age” was referring to the time from the founding of Rome, then it was a time of “thunder and lightning’, if from the time of his birth, was also a time of ‘omens.”

Traversing the land from the furtherest reaches of Arabia to the mountains of Switzerland, this 4000 year old road is the oldest commercial trade route in the world. It traverses through the country of Jordan from the Gulf of Aquaba near Petra and then wanders north and east through Iraq and Syria. The gold, silk and spices of the mysterious eastern world were sent to the west during the Middle Ages. This was the same trade routes that David and Solomon so effectively cornered and had an effective monopoly on international trade around 1000 BCE. This trade highway of called the “King’s Highway of Arabia”, the Arabah Road.

LoBaido in WorldNetDaily, “The King’s Highway of Arabia and “A City for End Times,” the history of Petra popularized by Indiana Jones sets the stage that Petra may actually be the site of Azal where the remnant will flee when the Maschiach (Messiah) will touch down on the Mount of Olives and the tectonic plates will split. The Mount will open up an escape route to the east to Azal and then a waterway for the Gihon River to flow to the Mediterranean Sea to the west and the Dead Sea and on to the Euphrates River to the east.

This reminds us of a prophecy of the Catastrophic prophet, Isaiah, who wrote about that future Day of the Lord.

Isaiah 11:11-16 - "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elan and from Shinar, [the site of the Tower of Babel] and from Hamath, and from the islands of the seas.(Greek islands or Britain, Ireland and Scotland.) And He shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. … They shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west. … And there shall be a highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt."

The Prophetic End Time City of Petra

There are so many today in the Christian culture that are anxious to foment and entice the Lord to hasten the return of the Lost Tribes of Israel. While most of the Josephites and the Ephraimites, those who are apart of the ‘Two House’ believers who believe in the return of the House of Judah and the House of Joseph (aka. Ephraim) are looking for a massive return of the Lost House of Israel according to the Zechariah Oracles in chapters nine and ten, the Lord of hosts has clearly stated that this return will not be completed until the Day of the Lord. Granted that some believe that the Day of the Lord is the entire time of the end and could have started as early as 70 CE and the fall of Jerusalem, the context does suggest that the “Remnant” of God’s people will still be dispersed throughout the Middle East and will be a visible “Sign” or “Ensign” that the Finger of the Lord is directly guiding the events in that day.

There are biblical scholars today who believe the “King’s Highway” will be the physical route that Yahshua will take when He physically enters our three-dimensional space, first destroying those at Armageddon who sought to destroy God’s holy city, Jerusalem and His people, and then He will traverse this route with the ‘remnant of His people, which shall be left from Assyria, as He returns to the Jerusalem, the Holy City as the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

Here in the center of this trade route was the bustling commercial trade city of Petra, which was part of the Nabataean Arab kingdom in the 6^th century BCE, was eventually conquered by general Pompey of Rome and eventually became the homestead of the Idumeans, the ancestors of Herod the Great. King Baldwin of the Crusader Kingdom in Jerusalem went and built military fortifications at Petra but it was not until 1812 and the exploration of the Swiss explorer Ludwig Burckhardt who traveled to Petra incognito as an Arab Bedouin did the western world become reacquainted with this ancient civilization.

In the ancient Roman world, the Nabotaean Empire was known by the Roman Senate and Petra was called a ‘metropolis’. Here was an effective Arab block that extended from Arabia to Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, Palestine and northern Africa that effectively resisted Roman domination. According to Micah Mohammed, an Arab guide to Petra;

"Long ago, according to the Koran and Islamic folklore, the area around Wadi Rum was much different, tropical with lakes and game, like Uganda. The most esteemed scientists and climatologists of today accept this as a fact. The Koran also says that this area was changed into a barren desert as a punishment from Allah. This happened when men turned their backs on God and claimed that it was man himself who had created such a paradise."

According to modern historians and archeologists, the arrivals of the modern-day Palestinians migrated from the west into Petra and were known as the Edomites or the Idumeans. It is their conclusion that these two cultures fused; the Arab Nabateans and the Edomite/Idumeans making a strong commercially oriented and war-like civilization.

It was Noah Hutchings, of speaker emeritus of the Southwest Radio Church, who has spent years in scholarly study of Petra who gave this account:

Noah Hutchings - "Jacob and Esau were twins. Jacob got the best of the deal in trading for Esau's birthright, and then he stole Esau's blessing. The blessing was far more valuable than the birthright. Esau took his minor share of Isaac's cattle and goods and went to Petra, which in the Bible is called Mount Seir, Mount Hor, Selah and Edom's strong city. Esau chased the Horites (cave dwellers) out of Mount Hor and established Petra and the capital city of his kingdom, Edom.

"Five hundred years later, when Moses tried to pass through Petra to the Promised Land, the Edomites refused passage and even fought the children of Israel. After the Israelites finally got into the land, the Edomites continually tried to kill them. The wars between Edom and Israel are recorded in the Old Testament in great detail. It was the inherited mission of the Edomites to exterminate the entire population of Israel to the last man.

"In 600 B.C., when Babylon invaded Israel, thousands of Israelis were moved to Babylon (today's Iraq) and the Edomites were moved into Israel. The Edomites even helped the Babylonians destroy Jerusalem and the temple (Psalm 137). When a remnant of Israel returned after the Babylonian captivity, the Edomites were there to wage war against them while the city and the temple were being rebuilt.

"While the scriptures are silent for the 400 years between the book of Malachi and the birth of Jesus, Josephus records the struggle between the Edomeans and the Israelites. This racial division and strife in the land prevented Israel from regaining any semblance of its former glory. The nation was easy prey for the Roman Empire on its march to world conquest.

Petra "The Romans favored the Edomeans over the Jews because Jews would not compromise their religion and worship Caesar or allow idols in the Temple. The Romans placed Edomean stooges like the Herods in places of authority. Josephus recorded an endless list of the most heinous crimes committed by the Herods against the Jews.

"In A.D. 70, the Romans destroyed the temple and Jerusalem. Over 1 million Jews were either killed or died of starvation in Jerusalem alone. The vast majority of the Jews left alive were sold as slaves to other nations. The balance fled to other countries to save their lives."

The Palestinian-Edomite link is not universally accepted. There are some who argue that the similarities between the two peoples were living only in proximity to each, one part of the migrating bands of the Sea People who settled on the coast of Israel after the cataclysms of the 15^th century BCE and produced a distinctive culture along the coast, both a nemesis to Saul including his death and the later kings of Israel and Judah. The Edomites were a trans-placed population by the Assyrians. Both lived in a land which was only known as Palestine after 70 CE when the Romans renamed Judea to Roman-Palestine after the ancient Philistines.

It is Rabbi David Eidensohn, consultant to Knight Ridder news service stated, who speaks in dissent to the idea that the Palestinians are Edomites,

"The Talmud states that Sennacherib the Assyrian despot conquered the Middle East and transferred entire populations. Therefore, the Edomites, Amonites, Egyptians, etc. who lived after Sennacherib [about 2,500 years ago] are not the real ones, they are transferred populations. The Talmud uses the term Esau to mean a Jew who took Jewish ideas but denied Judaism, and it generally refers to Rome. Because Esau was the twin brother of Jacob, indeed, the older brother, the greatest converts, who became the greatest rabbis, are from the Edomite line. Two of the most famous ones are Unkelus, in the time of Hillel, who authored the accepted Aramaic translation of the Bible, and Akilas. Both were from the family of the Roman emperor,"

"No other nation, other than Edom, produces outstanding converts. In Cabala, the greatest souls -- period -- were in the soul of Esau, and when the Jews and the world merits, they reveal incredible light that even Jews cannot reveal. Rabbi Mayer, whose name means ‘light' was so brilliant that 'none of his colleagues could follow his thoughts,' and he descends from a Roman emperor. Again, the Palestinians are not Edom."

The Mysterious City of Petra

Yet it is Petra that intrigues the study of the scholars of the time of the end. If Zechariah 14 and Isaiah 11 are both to be fulfilled, we have the Jewish people escaping the Armageddon forces out of Jerusalem while Jewish and Israelite emigrants moving toward the Land of Israel in an attempt of aliyah or the “return” to their promised homeland. Will both of these groups escape to Petra? How will they traverse the rugged, Grand Canyon-like terrain of central Jordan and the surrounding mountainous deserts of Wadi Rum, the hiding spots of the guerilla forces of Lawrence of Arabia during World War I.

Once again we return to the discussion of the Arabah Road, the King’s Highway and the newly created seismic Olivian rift that will split the Mount of Olives in Zechariah 14. Yet according to Amman-based Mossad intelligence agent, Avi Rubin, a former airborne commando in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), Petra may be the ultimate defense location in the Middle East during a regional war.

Avi Rubin - "It is an outstanding defensive position. Airborne assault would be most difficult. It is what I would call a natural defensive position. The Roman legions, the Crusaders, the Arabs and now the IDF, Iraq and the Jordanian army all recognized this," said Rubin.

"The most important defensive feature is called 'the Shiq,' which is about 2,000 meters long. [Today, the passage is marked by the 'Indiana Jones' souvenir shop.] It is a narrow passageway which leads into the city. It has very high, sheer walls which will protect the Israeli population as they enter the city from the west. The rocks of Petra can help protect from gunfire, bombing, artillery and perhaps even absorb some radiation."

According to the IDF and the Mossad, Rubin claims that Petra has significant strategic and military defensive barriers.

Bible fundamentalists point to Old Testament passages they claim to be speaking about a war between Israel and the Palestinians. These include Ezekiel 35:2-5 and Ezekiel 36:5. Also the Prophet Amos states:

Amos 9:11-12 - "In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen. … That they may possess the remnant of Edom. …"

Ezekiel 36:5 - "Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey."

Ezekiel 35:2-5 - "Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it. … Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end."

Yet it was Rabbi David Eidensohn who was speaking in April, 2001 after the beginning of the Palestinian Jihad yet before 911, when he spoke of the role of Jewish writings concerning the time of the end.

Eidensohn - "As a Jew -- who has divinely imparted secrets about the affairs of earth, especially the family of Abraham, Ishmael and Esau; Israel, Moslems and Christians -- we see the world heading away from secular (conflicts) to religious ones. The Moslems are pushing up into Russia, and as they gain nuclear weapons, they will not be afraid of China, either. This is the war of the jihad people against America. It is a war against not the U.S., but Christianity.

"The mystical books stress that in the end of days the secular Jews will battle the authority of the rabbis, attempt to make peace with Ishmael, fail, and after that will be the Messianic Era. Zionism was founded to create solutions for the 'Jewish problem,' and the Orthodox opposed this, saying that there will never be a solution for the 'Jewish problem' until Jews behave so honestly and so correctly that Messiah came. As Israelis realize that the Arabs will never make peace, the Orthodox movement is exploding.

When Rabbi Amnon Yitschok speaks (he is a former secularist, as are the major movers in the 'Return movement') tens of thousands of people crowd the stadium. Outside, people hawk tickets for ridiculous prices. Once inside, hundreds of people come forward with their gold and silver nose and earrings, and promise to Return. Israel is now a land pulsing with the Messiah and a large amount of people who are coming to grips with the realities opposed to their fervent secular beliefs."

According to Eindensohn the prophecies on the time of the end have been unfolding over the past decade.

Rabbi David Eindensohn - "You remember, of course, that Iraq rained down Scud missiles on Israel, 39 huge containers of explosives, and almost nobody was killed, despite the fact that the Jews were penned up in their apartments and could not go to bomb shelters for fear of poison gas. This was in the Gulf War and was one of the first major public miracles that will herald in the Messianic Era."

"The Orthodox community can take the constant saber rattling because they believe that Arafat and Hussein are harbingers of the Messiah, but the secular community cannot take it. They seek solutions, and there are none. This is the major issue in modern Israel today: whether to seek solutions at any price, or to forget about them and await the Messiah. More and more people realize that there are no secular solutions. Nobody wants peace; they want peace without Jews."

Any student of the time of the end must keep Petra in the prophetic scope as the Lord of hosts directs the final act in the Drama of the Ages.

The final days at the time of the end many catastrophic changes will occur on the face of the earth. The hints and the visual imagery in Isaiah and Revelation, now our knowledge on the astrophysical, geological and magnetosphere of the earth, can be read and visualized as literal images of catastrophic changes that will occur on this earth. One of the major clues in the following text is what will be happening to the mountains and islands on the face of this planet earth.

Revelation 6:12 – “I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops it late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place...for the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

For mountains and islands to be moved, the tectonic plates as part of the crust of the earth will be moving into a new era of catastrophic changes not seen since the patriarchs of old. The earth will truly shake and move. The great earthquake of the 6^th seal has been estimated by scholars to be at least a magnitude of 12 to 15 magnitudes, with world wide catastrophes in nations on all continents. The great cities will collapse and the pangs of childbirth will be felt by all the nations of the earth at one time. Fear and calamity will settle over all the inhabitants of the globe as the earth groans under the terrestrial strain of crustal shifting, colliding and separating continents and magnetic and polar reversals.

Isaiah 13:6 - “Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. Therefore all hands will be limp, every man’s heart will melt, and they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; they will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; they will be amazed at one another; their faces will be like flames.

Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and He will destroy its sinners from it. For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light; they sun will be darkened in its going forth, and the moon will not cause its light to shine. ….I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold, a man more than the golden wedge of Ophir.

Therefore I will shake the heaven, and the earth will move out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts and in the day of His fierce anger. It shall be as the hunted gazelle, and as a sheep that no man takes up, every man will turn to his own people. And everyone will flee to his own land. Everyone who is found will be thrust through, and everyone who is captured will fall by the sword. Their children also will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.

Out of all this calamity, great things will begin to happen. All of our selfish plans will suddenly be swept away. We will have only two choices in life, curse God and seek to wreak as much personal havoc in our own sphere of influence and dominion or turn our hearts to the Lord of hosts and as such the Spirit of the Almighty will be poured upon the land.

Joel 2:28-32 – “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth; blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.

Great and momentous decisions will be made. The peoples of the world have been exposing corruption, power and greed while the courts of the nations are themselves becoming more corrupt. The United States as it turns its back on the acknowledgment that our founding fathers truly did believe in the motto of our nation, “In God We Trust” and one by one the monuments of testimony testifying to the simple faith of God will be torn down. The Nativity Scenes will be gone, the Bibles in the courtroom will be gone, and the angelic messengers on the spires of churches will be torn down, while power and greed in the churches of the nations will be consolidated in a near monopoly of religious ideology. The vast populations of the world will all be facing the ‘valley of decision’.

Joel 3:14-17 – “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision! The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will diminish their brightness. The Lord also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the Lord will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel. So you shall know that I am the Lord your God, dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. Then Jerusalem shall be holy, and no alien shall ever pass through her again.”

Tribulation will now be over. The time of the wrath of Satan will be nearing an end. The time of the Wrath of God will just be beginning. The cosmic powers will be at war as Satan’s final hour is about over. Over and over, the Prince of Darkness will be demoted from one sphere and dimension of the heavens after another until he and the forces of evil and darkness will become trapped in our three dimensional world. Many of these angelic powers were guardians over the natural forces that guided and protected the stars and planets of the universe. Whereas in the Hebrew thought, the stars of the heavens were also known as angels, so when the rebellious angelic forces make their final assault on the forces of Michael, the Archangel, the heavenly spheres will be thrown in chaos and the “powers of the heavens will be shaken.”

Matthew 24:29-31 – “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven and the power of the heavens will be shaken. Then the Sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heaven to the other.”

The ministry of the “Two Witnesses” will be the Lord’s final stand with those chosen to be His own. Is it no wonder that the final scenes at the time of the end will be in Jerusalem, the capital of the Lord of hosts for the whole universe. No movie drama will ever be able to capture the suspense than will occur when it appears that the forces of the Antichrist and the coalition of world forces will finally capture the Land of Israel and will be closing in on the city of Jerusalem. Global telecommunication networks will focus all of their resources to capture the ongoing struggle between the “two witnesses” who appear to have such formidable inter-dimensional power and then… their lives will be finally snuffed out. And then the seventh trumpet will sound.

Revelation 11:11 (The Seventh Trumpet of the Seventh Seal) - “Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, (resurrection of the two witnesses) and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, ‘Come up here.’ And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them. In the same hour there was a great earthquake and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.”

The second woe is completed and the third and final woe will come quickly.

Revelation 11:15 – “Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying,

‘We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because You have taken your great power and reigned. The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should reward your servants the prophets and the saints.

And those who fear Your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.’

“Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple and there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail.”

The seventh Vial or Bowl Plague angel gives this same account:

Revelation 16:17 (The Seventh Vial or bowl plague) – “Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven from the throne, saying, “It is done!” And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth.

Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent (75 lbs). Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great. “

Can you imagine what would be happening around the world if all the islands in the oceans were to sink below the water? What would be happening if all the mighty mountain chains from the Rockies, the Andes, to the Himalayas were to start collapsing as the earth expands and the vast subterranean crustal plates which were pushing against each other with unbelievable forces were to suddenly separate? Would the separation of the continents of North America and Europe in the Atlantic Ocean suddenly reverse and begin rapidly moving back to each other? When the tectonic forces of plates that crashed against each other with massive uplifts are suddenly relieved of that vast continental pressure, where will the next pressure points and uplifts points be along the continental plates?

The Coming of the Messiah

Zechariah 14:5c - Thus the Lord my God will come,

And all the saints (Holy Ones RSV) with You.

The approaching forces of the Messiah will be accompanied with the saints or holy ones. Holy Ones are used in various contexts, mostly to humanoid like beings who already exist in an other-dimensional state. Yet, this is one of the key-texts that suggest that human immortal saints will also be part of the returning forces of Yahshua, the Messiah.

Who are these saints or holy ones and where did they come from?

Jude 14 – Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,….” (NKJV) or “myriads of angels” (RSV)

I Thessalonians 3:13 – “at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.” (NKJV)

Again, care must be exercised not to read into this text anything that is proof-texting the New Testament. This will be quite a spectacle but it will be HASHEM who will make an appearance with the TZADDIKIM, so I suspect that Yahshua may also be present, although Rashi interprets “Holy Ones” as “angels.”

Zechariah 14:6 - It shall come to pass in that day

That there will be no light;

The lights will diminish.

Zechariah 14:5b - It shall be one day, which is known to the Lord

Neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen

That it will be light.

This is in sequel to “no man knoweth the day nor the hour when the Son of Man cometh.” To state that it is “neither day nor night” also suggests a cataclysmic event such as complete standstill of the earth’s polar rotation. The New Testament suggestion that the coming of the messiah will be “as a thief in the night” not only suggests an element of surprise, but a time of absence of light.

Let us relook at the last passage.

Zechariah 14:7 - “It shall be one day, which is known to the Lord neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen that it will be light.”

Sit and think about this passage a moment. We are again in Jerusalem as this city is the center of focus of all prophetic studies. The Day of the Lord has come. It is one literal day in human time, yet it is known only to the Lord of hosts. But what does it mean when it says, it is neither day nor night? To all humans a day has a certain and anticipated cycle. To the Jew, it is night then day. To the western world it is day then night. Yet this day will confound all the inhabitants of the earth. For some the sun will rise yet before it set, the sun moves backwards over the sky. For others, the sun will set and when sunrise is anticipated, it will never come. As it to assure that the meaning is clear, then the prophet Zechariah writes:

“But at evening time it shall happen that it will be light.”

So as the inhabitants are anticipating and awaiting the setting of the sun, suddenly the brightness of the sky is intensified. The stellar observer will notice that the sun instead of setting is now arising in the sky but it is reversing its order. North has now become south and the forces that were holding the continental plates jammed against each other were now reversed.

The cosmic energy that will precede the coming of Yahshua will contrast with darkness (spiritual and physical) and then ‘it will be light’. This is a good illustration of how the scripture combines literal/physical with spiritual/symbolic/allegorical meaning.

A day “known to Hashem” is an idiom for a day that is kept secret from man. For it to be suddenly “light” at evening time (in Jerusalem) means that the earth flips over which will result in polar changes that can actually re-route existing rivers and seas, thus the verse below:

The Gihon River as “Living Water” erupts from the Temple

14:8 – And in that day it shall be that living water shall flow from Jerusalem,

Half of them toward the eastern sea,

and half of them toward the western sea;

In both summer and winter it shall occur.

Living water suggests an active flowing river, not just a pool or pond. Today beneath the Temple Mount a small flow of water is beginning to emerge. Will this be the recreation of from mt olives the Garden of Eden in the new millennial era? Here we see a antitype River of Eden which flowed from the presence of HaShem in the Garden. This river will gush forth and follow the rift running east and west formed by the great earthquake which split the Mount of Olives.

The Temple Mount with the Gihon Springs to the Left by Yael Avi-Yonah

This is the spring concerning which Joel prophesied, “And a spring shall emanate from the house of Hashem,” Joel 3:18. Possibly this will be the spring that once filled the Kidron Valley. To flow in both winter and summer means it will be a very great volume with a current such that it will not freeze or evaporate.

Let us again visit that 12^th Mishnah of the Emeq Ha Melekh that was written in the 5^th century BCE by Shimon HaLevi which stated:

The names of the Tribes were engraved on them and they shone on the Tribe’s heads, excellent and precious, one more than the other. No king, prophet, or anyone else knew where they were hidden, excepting Hiluk, son of Shimur Ha Levi. The remainder of the wealth and glory that was in Jerusalem was taken by angel Shimshiel. Shimur, Hiluk, and their companions, the Levites, later went and showed it to Michael and Gavriel. All Israel concealed the Vessels until a righteous king arises over Israel.

What’s more, they all swore a solemn vow never to reveal the whereabouts of these vessels until David, son of David, arises. All silver, gold, and Margaliot (precious stones) which was ever hidden away will secondtemple be handed over to him when the exiles of Israel will be gathered from the four ends of the earth and they ascend with greatness and exaltation to the land of Israel.

At that time, a great river will issue forth from the Holy of Holies of the Temple. It’s name is Gihon, and it will flow to the great and dreadful desert, and become mixed with the Euphrates River. Immediately, all the Vessels will float up and be revealed.

Solomon’s Temple by Yael Avi-Yonah

In all the Biblical passages, none of them reveal the name of the river that will proceed out from the temple wall, yet in this passage, this river’s name is the River Gihon. Let us remind ourselves that the Gihon River is one of the four rivers that proceeded forth out of the Garden of Eden as branches from the mighty River of Eden. Is it not a coincidence that the only living spring in the vicinity of Jerusalem also is called the Gihon Springs.

Zechariah 14:9 – And the Lord shall be King over all the earth.

In that day it shall be – “The Lord is one,” And His name one.

At this moment, Yahshua, the messiah and Lord of Lords, King of Kings, shall claim his rightly mantle to rule over the kings of the earth.

Again, be careful of New Testament proof-texts. This verse says HASHEM will be King over all the Earth. He will become ONE and His Name One. The display He has just performed will convince the nations that He alone is G-d and they shall abandon their vanities and declare Him sovereign.

The Mountains of Israel will be turned into Plains

Zechariah 14:10a – All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem.

This is a formerly mountainous region. Geba is about 6 miles northeast of Jerusalem, the modern Jeba, representing the northern extremity of Judah. (2 Kings 22:8)

Rimmon is recognized as En-rimmon, about 8 miles north of Beersheba, the modern Khirbet Umm er-Ramanmin. This is recognized as the southern extent of Judah. (2 Kings 23:8) Denoting the northern and southern extent of Judah, the formerly mountainous Judah will now become a plain.

The point is that the city of Jerusalem, surrounded by mountains, will be elevated higher than all the territory of Judah.

This reminds us of the famous texts in Isaiah 2 portrayed with the coming of the Moshiach.

Isaiah 2:1-5 – “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.

Many people shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths. “For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not life up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the Lord.”

Jerusalem – the Epicenter of a Seismic Uplift

Zechariah 14:10b - Jerusalem shall be raised up

“Shall be raised up” also depicts the massive tectonic forces that split the Mount of Olives will raise up the Temple Mount, the mount of the Lord, which will be raised up above all the other mountains.

Consider the cataclysmic forces that will be present at this time. Vast tectonic upheavals will be causing a restructure of all the continental plates on the earth. In the sixth seal, these tectonic forces, which form our present continents, will move the mountains and the islands of the sea (undersea mountains) from their place. (Revelation 6:14)

By the time we arrive that this event, the seventh seal, the mountains and the islands will vanish. What this suggests is that the earth has gone into a polar magnetic reversal and is now rotating the opposite direction. The forces, which were holding the continents together, are now reversed and the continental plates will begin to separate. The vast mountain chains of the Himalayans, the Andes, and the Rockies will begin to crumble and collapse.

A second phenomenon in crustal deformity associated with earthquakes and continental plate movement is massive uplift. Consider the fact that in the Bolivian Andes near Lake Titicaca (12,500 feet above sea level, is a massive city of megalithic stones, Tianhuanco, which was built from massive stones 2 tons to 500 tons each, depicting engineering skills not equaled in the modern world. One mile from the main temple, is a megalithic canal, Puma Punka some believe once connected the Pacific Ocean with the ancient Amazonian Sea. The canal was built with limesone and andesite cut stones, some up to 27 feet long and weighting up to 300 tons. These blocks were incised with exotic key-stone cuts, which would interlock these massive blocks. The nearby Lake Titicaca has the remains of ancient seashores, and the area which was once a sea bed, is now 2.5 miles higher in elevation. Here depicts the monumental forces found in ancient cataclysms. Yes, the Temple Mount could be lifted up into a massive mount within minutes.

A third geophysical force we may be witnessing is crustal shifting. Here, the earth’s crust can skid like an orange peal sliding over the surface of an orange. The Land of Israel, sitting close to the 30^th parallel, could within minutes slide down to the equatorial area and be lifted up by the equatorial bulge. This would make the millennial Land of Israel within the temperate tropics.

Zechariah 14:10c - And inhabited in her place from Benjamin’s Gate

To the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of

Hananel to the king’s winepresses.

Benjamin’s Gate was in the middle of the northern wall. First Gate and the Corner Gate (2 Kings 14:13; Jeremiah 31:38) is believed to be the eastern and western gates of the northern wall. These two gates depict the eastern and western limits of the city. The Tower of Haneneel was on the northeastern wall. The King’s winepresses are not definitely located but believed to be in the southwestern part of the city, near the King’s Garden in the Kidron (Nehemiah 3:15) These would designate the northern and southern extent of the city. Therefore, the Zechariah city is shown to be a city completely inhabited.

The corner gate and the tower of Hananel are mentioned in Jeremiah 31:37-38. The Talmud clarifies that this section of the Old City Wall of Jerusalem (also mentioned in Nehemiah) was the section of the wall torn down in the Civil War between Judah and Israel when Jerusalem was attacked. Therefore, it depicts the WESTERN boundary of the city. The Mezudat David states the distance between the gate of the corner and the tower of Hananel was “the width of the city from north to south.” The Daath Mikra states that the corner gate was at the NW corner of the Old City Wall and the tower of Hananel was in the Western Wall of the Old City.

Zechariah 14:11 – The people shall dwell in it;

And no longer shall there be utter destruction,

But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

This is a prophecy, which is obviously not fulfilled to this day. It depicts a city, which is destined to stand forever as a place of dwelling in complete safety.

Rashi brings that this means “the city shall no longer be in ruins.” Since the city of Jerusalem was reclaimed in 1967, we are seeing the fulfillment of this scripture.

A Plague will Smite the Enemies of Israel

Zechariah 14:12 – And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike

all the people who fought against Jerusalem:

The destruction forces will be wrought upon the armies of Armageddon by the forces of the Messiah. The military forces from the North (King of the North, Gog and Magog, the armies from the East in the 5^th Trumpet), all appear to be apart of the same invasion forces. It is assumed that they will be the combined forces of the One World Government denoted as Babylon.

Jeremiah 50:9,14 – “For behold, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country… their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior;….Put yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows…(NKJV)

Revelation 18:8,18 – “Because of this, her plagues shall strike her in a single day – pestilence, bereavement, famine, and burning (man-made cataclysm or Acts of God) – for mighty is the Lord God who has pronounced her doom!…Then all the sea captains and voyagers the sailors and those who traded by sea, stood at a distance and cried out as they saw the smoke of her conflagration: ‘Was there ever a city like the great City?’

Zechariah 14:12b - Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet,

Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets,

And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.

This vivid and horrid word picture is so typical of the destructive force of a nuclear holocaust. At the same time, the origin of the destruction is coming from the Lord, the returning Messiah. Accessing the massive energy forces of the universe, the armies of heaven will use energy forces akin or vastly more destructive than nuclear forces. Yet this destruction will be a cleansing destruction, not the contaminating destruction of a fusion based atomic warhead. (See Revelation 19:11-21)

The remnant of God’s people will have escaped through the divinely prepared “rift” escape route when the Mount of Olives is cataclysmically separated. They escape just ahead of the massive outpouring of water from the base of the Temple Mount, which will flow to the Dead Sea to the east and the Mediterranean to the west.

This will not be an “illness” but rather a plague of some sort that will strike suddenly while they are standing on their feet. Redak brings Isaiah 66:19 as this plague beings the “sign” upon the nations that will result in refugees being sent to the nations.

Zechariah 14:13a – It shall come to pass in that day

That a great panic from the Lord will be among them. (Armageddon forces)

This is an understatement!

Rashi says they will become “mad” with frenzy..

Zechariah 14:13b - Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor,

And raise his hand against his neighbor’s hand:

Like Gideon, when the forces of Midian were routed, the armed forces of the Antichrist will destroy themselves by ‘friendly fire’.

Zechariah 14:14 – Judah also will fight at Jerusalem.

And the wealth of all the surrounding nations shall gather together:

Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance.

This could be translated ‘fight against Jerusalem’. The city of Jerusalem at this time with be under the military command of the Anti-Messiah (vs 2) and though the forces of the Messiah are fighting for Jerusalem (vs 12-13), the remnant ‘chosen’ will also have a part in the invasion forces.

The material wealth of the forces of the Antichrist will be left behind. This is a reminder of Abram, when he defeated the combined forces of the 5 Kings and the booty was left behind, a part which he gave as a tithe to Melchizedek, king of Salem.

While Hashem appears to have judged the armies AROUND Jerusalem, Judah will fight “b’Rushalayim” (IN Jerusalem). This means the plague may not strike inside the city and hand to hand combat could be necessary to drive out the invading armies inside the city. I find it interesting that JOES or the HOUSE of ISRAEL are NOT mentioned in this conflict, which means it occurs BEFORE the Return.

Zechariah 14:15 – Such also shall be the plague on the horse and the mule,

On the camel and the donkey,

and on all the cattle that will be in those camps.

So shall this plague be.

Whereas Saul failed to destroy all the forces of Amelek, including all the sheep and cattle, this time all the genetic pool of Amalek will be destroyed.

Again, the “camps” are outside the city of Jerusalem. The plague apparently does not touch the city of Jerusalem.

Peace is Ushered in with the Festival of Succot

Zechariah 14:16 – And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations

which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to

worship the King, the Lord of hosts,

and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

Yes, you read it right. The Battle of Armageddon will not be a total earth destructive battle. People around the earth will be alive on this earth, and they will not be a part of the ‘saints’ which have gained immortality or put on ‘incorruptible bodies’. Compare with:

Isaiah 66:15, 18, 20, 23 – “For behold, the Lord will come with fire and with His chariots, (cherubim which carry angels and humans) like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire….It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory….Then they shall bring all your brethren (Israelites) for an offering to the Lord out of all nations…to My holy mountain Jerusalem. ….and it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me, says the Lord.

Add to this the picture in Revelation about Satan, being bound in the Abyss for a thousand years, and then:

Revelation 20:4 - “thrones were set up and upon them sat those to whom judgment was committed” (Revelation 20:4)

Who sat upon these thrones? They include: “the souls of those who had been beheaded for the sake of God’s word”, the Torah (the Old Testament martyrs), and those beheaded for their “testimony of Jesus Christ” (the New Testament martyrs up to the tribulation) and “those who had not worshipped the beast and its image or received its mark on forehead or hand.” (the tribulation martyrs). Those who had given their life for the cause of HaShem will be honored to be rulers under the Kingship of the Messiah.

Feast of Tabernacles

The Autumn Holy Feasts as a unit symbolized the Second Coming of Yehoshua (Jesus). Let’s look at them individually:

· The Feast of Trumpets – Announced by the seventh trumpet, Yahshua will now be returning. (Leviticus 23:23-25, Matthew 24:30-31)

· The Day of Atonement – This is the final judgment when Satan (HaSatan) will be sentenced after he is removed as ‘the lord of this world’. (Leviticus 23:26-32, Revelation 20:10)

· The Feast of Tabernacles – this is a joyful feast of celebration, after Azazial (Satan) has been cast into the wilderness (Abyss). It is a harvest festival and represents the thousand years after Christ’s return when the real harvesting of souls will begin. (Leviticus 23:33-36, Revelation 20:2-4.)

· The Last Day – the 8^th day of the Feast of Tabernacles is a portrayal at the end of the millennium when the Millennial Saints will be judged according to their works and achieve immortality. (Leviticus 23:39, Revelation 20:5, 11-15.)

Of all the Spring and Fall feasts of the Hebrew yearly cycle, the Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:34, 40) will be a commemorative event of the destruction of the evil forces upon this earth and the beginning celebration of peace on this earth.

Once again, I would caution not to bring New Testament proof-texting into this passage. The King, the L-rd of Hosts who is worshipped is HASHEM only … not Yahshua. This will become an extension of the Festival of Succot heretofore commanded only of Israel, to now be observed by the nations in commemoration with the war of Gog and Magog which occurs on this particular Succot.

Zechariah 14:17 - And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up

To Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts on them there will be no rain.

We now return to the universal laws of cause and effect. Without the forces of evil being allowed to corrupt the application of universal law, the rule of the universe, “that which you sow, that shall ye also reap”.

Today, the first rain in Israel is usually on the last day of the Festival of Succot … you can almost set your calendar by it. Which is another reason I knew that Passover as ordained by the rabbonim was celebrated in the correct month because sure enough on the 8^th day called Shemini Atzeret we had our first rain. This has happened every year I have lived in Israel 1987-93 and now 2000. Only AFTER observing Succot, does the rain come. It will be the same with the nations, but only with nations who observe Succot in Jerusalem.

Zechariah 14:18a – If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in,

They shall have no rain;

Edomites and the Amalekites will be utterly destroyed. Yet, Egyptians will have survived. Their genetic past will still include a long history of rebellion against HaShem and they will have to be retrained by cause and effect on how to worship the Lord. If they do not worship as ordained by HaShem, then rain in the highlands of Ethiopia will dry up the Nile River causing severe devastation upon the land of Egypt.

Zechariah 14:18b - They shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations

Who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles

Zechariah 14:19 – This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the

Nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

What is this plague? Is it the same cosmic forces of energy that may destroy them if they rebel? Is this the rod of iron, which comes from the mouth of the Lord?

It is POSSIBLE that somehow RAIN will stay this plague.

Zechariah 14:20a – In that day “Holiness to the Lord” shall be engraved on the bells of the horses.

In the olden days, the bells on the horses were a signal of the invading forces upon the Land of Israel, which was a source of fear and terror. This time, the bells on the horses will be engraved ‘Holiness to the Lord” which was the same inscription engraved on the miter of the high priest. (Exodus 28: 36, 37)

The City of Jerusalem in the 19^th century

Zechariah 14:20b - The pots in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar.

Zechariah 14:21 – Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts.

Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them.

In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.

The fact that all the pots and bowls in the Land of Judah and Jerusalem were consecrated stated that the whole land would be ‘Holy’ and consecrated unto HaShem. The land was now purified and the presence of HaShem once again could reside in His Holy Mount.

The word Canaanite (Heb. kena’ani.) is translated “merchant” (Job 41:6, Proverbs 31:24). The economy of the Land of Judah will be consecrated unto the Lord, and though all nations are welcome, merchants like the ones, Yahshua drove out of the Temple (Matthew 21:12) would not be allowed in the area consecrated in holiness.

These pots are “set apart” strictly to boil the meat of the sacrifices. They are “holy” in that they cannot be used for any other purpose, in the same way meat and milk dishes are today kept separate. The mention of Canaanite could be idiomatic and indicate that only those who BELONG in the land will be there.

The time of the end is now complete. Jerusalem and Judah will be called holy unto the Lord of hosts. The temple of Ezekiel will be planted on the highest of the seven hills of Zion, lifted up by the Lord Himself in a day with all the other mighty mountain ranges will collapse on the surface of the earth and in the bottom of the oceans where only the island peaks are seen above the waters.

Isaiah 66:15-24 (parts) – “For behold, the Lord will come with fire, with His chariots (cherubim) like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury and His rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by His sword the Lord will judge all flesh; and the slain of the Lord shall by many.

For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My Glory. I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations...to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My Glory among the Gentiles.

Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the Lord out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem.’ Say the Lord, ‘as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord. And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites,’ says the Lord.

“For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, ‘so shall your descendants and your name remain. And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from on Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come before Me,” says the Lord.

What a glorious experience. The Day of the coming of the Lord, the Day of Judgment will be a day to slay the wicked and those who assault and seek to control the people of God. After the coming of Yehoshua, the greatest era of evangelism is still in the future. The Lord of hosts will “set a sign” and “those that escape” will be sent as the emissaries of the Lord for a multiple purpose assignment. They will go to all nations to find all of God’s chosen people. The remnant of the all the tribes of Israel will be brought back to God’s holy mountain, Jerusalem.

The Glory of the Lord will be declared to the Gentiles and those “who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory.” Even so the new heavens and the new earth which the Lord ‘will make’ will still be in the future and will remain before God or in His thoughts and plans. Yet on this earth, all mankind will learn to worship in the ways of Torah, from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another.”

The wars of the heavens are being played out on this planet earth and humans will live through it to testify of the might, power, justice and the love of the God of Israel. In a world of corruption and disinformation, we cannot always know what the historical truth is and who is promoting evil or mis-information. We cannot guarantee our sources but we will always seek to portray trends that can be validated in the Torah and the testimony of the prophets of the Old and the New Testament.
