The
first task of the returning Jewish exiles back from Babylon
was to make
preparations for the laying of the foundation of the Temple. Was this not the
command given to them by the Emperor Cyrus, plus to return all the cultic
vessels that were to be used in the Temple? A protective
fortress was needed to preserve
and honor the possessions of the Lord.
History of measuring Jerusalem
Zechariah 2:1 – Then I raised my eyes and looked,
and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Measuring lines were used throughout prophetic literature. In the book of Zechariah it appears to be a literal measurement as it was descriptive of the rebuilding process that was going on in Jerusalem upon the arrival of Sheshbazzar, who was called the ‘ruler of Judah’ (Ezra 1:8)
It was the Prophet Ezekiel, a little over fifty years earlier, or about 572 BCE (14 years after the temple was destroyed in 586 BCE, twenty five years after Ezekiel’s captivity in 597/598 BCE (Ezekiel 40:1) ) who saw ‘a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze’. (Ezekiel 40:3) He had a “line of flax and a measuring rod in his hand, and he stood in the gateway” of Jerusalem. Even though the walls were torn down, several gateways were still standing, and here was an angel with a measuring line measuring the vast complex of what was to later be known as the Ezekiel Temple (Ezekiel 40-44). Many s scholars have stated that this temple will be the temple of the Lord that will be built in the millennial kingdom. What we do know is that a temple with the grand dimensions that it exhibited has never been built in the past, not even Herod’s Temple, so to believe this vision is literally true than it will be built in the future, possibly by the Maschiach of Yisra’el or the Messiah of Israel..
The Apostle John (Revelation 11), was given a “reed like a measuring rod” (vs. 1) and told to:
Revelation 11:1-3 - “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. But leave out the court, which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”
Notice carefully those forty-two months is 1260 days if we make one assumption; that the calendar year is 12 months with 30 days per month and 360 days per year. Yet our solar year today is 365.25 days and to revert to such a year would mean that the orbit of the earth would have to move closer to the sun, or the speed of the rotation of the earth would have to slow down.

Some scholars suggest that we will revert back to a lunar calendar at that time, but the moon does not rotate around the earth at 30 days per months. At that time, it would have to move farther away from our earth. Since we as BibleSearchers believe that the Biblical account is literal, the astrophysical changes will also have to occur.
Note that there are scholars of prophecy that teach that these 1260 days are ‘prophetic day’s, and as a day for a year these 1260 days are actually 1260 years. These teachings are valid and true, yet let us not shorten the wisdom of the Most High. God is capable creating layers of prophetic understanding upon each individual prophecy.
As BibleSearchers, we are intent on finding a literal interpretation, or a firm foundation for the original prophecy in order to find a pattern, what many scholars call type/anti-type analogy. At the same time, we recognize that spiritual, allegorical, and mystical teachings can be layered upon this literal foundation. Without a firm and literal scriptural foundation, the sky is the limit in how many different spiritual teachings can be entertained by teachers and scholars with marked divergence and conflict in their basic understanding.
In specific reference to the 1260 years/day prophetic understanding, this gives us a valid historical picture of the “Church” or “Ecclesia” as it existed and survived since the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. Within the prophecies of John the Revelator, one historical interpretation suggests that the two witnesses, instead of being literal persons who are God’s witnesses and agents upon this earth, are the Old and the New Testament as spiritual symbols. Once again, this is valid, for it brings in proper perspective the witnessing role of the entire Holy Scriptures as used by the followers of Jesus throughout the last two thousand years.
Let us suggest as BibleSearchers, our goal is to see if there is a valid literal interpretation as a prophecy about the time of the end. It must be one that can be understood and accepted by the common person, like we are. It must be consistent with proper biblical exegesis, or in layman’s terms, proper interpretation of scripture using the context of the message and an understanding of the original language in which it was written, which was usually Hebrew. Guess what, none of us are ‘trained’ biblical scholars by the institutions of man. We have nothing to hide and nothing to defend. We are searching and praying for guidance from on High. That is something even you can do, for by reading this, you are now a BibleSearcher.
Let us suggest that the Apostle John, in a literal sequential account of the time of the end, was given a long cane, a measuring rod to measure the Temple, the Altar and the number of worshippers at the Temple. There may be a suggestion that this was a qualitative measurement especially in that they were fulfilling the spiritual role that Hashem had given to the Temple. If the Temple of the Lord is now within us, and we are now all “spiritual Israelites”, then over 1260 years we are measured for our spiritual attainment and closeness to the Lord. Let us not discard this interpretation, but rather now look a bit deeper.
Consistent with our literal interpretation of scripture, we must suggest the scene that John was seeing in vision the time of the end. This was portrayed as a literal event and at that time the Temple of the Lord will exist. Also this event will occur sometime in the last three and one-half years before the end of days for the prophecy of the Abomination of Desolation will occur in the midst of the week.
Could we be so bold to suggest that these solar years will be dramatically different because of catastrophic events we have gone through? Truly the remnant saints, the Nation of Israel, and the two witnesses could be living in a world, which will have 30 days per month and 360 days per year. In another study, we will see that the world before the fall of Israel by the forces of Sennacherib about 702 BCE was an era in which the calendar was 360 days per year.
John’s portrayal does give us a visual image that a literal temple will exist at this time and the outer court, that is the court which is outside the Temple, (Zechariah 2:2) will be under the dominion of the gentiles, that is non-Hebrew, whether Moslem or Christian. Yes, we see here an ecumenical religious blending of various religions on the Temple Mount which may be viewed as the Outer Court of the Temple.
Wait a minute you protest, the Temple Mount is where the Temple of Herod and the Temple of Solomon once stood! Well, maybe not. Maybe we and the Jewish People have believed an illusion for over 1900 years. When we get to chapter three, we will discuss some possibilities on the location of the Temple, as some call the Tribulation Temple that will be consistent with the picture of the prophets and John in Revelation.
Yet, we feel a strong impression that HaShem is also not pleased for it exclaims that the Holy City is trampled or tread underfoot by the gentiles for forty-two months. Here now in the Oracles of Zechariah, this angel is sent to measure Jerusalem. Is it a measure of quality?
Many Christians want to interpret this passage only in a spiritual meaning. In the writings of Paul it says that we are Temples of the Living God. If so, will this spiritual measurement mean that the saints of God will be spiritually trampled on by the one-world government and the coalition of religious institutions? This concept is acceptable and it has been portrayed over and over in the history of mankind. In the era of the Christian Church and the especially the hegemony of power and authority under the Roman Christian Church, this spiritual trampling of the saints of God occurred from the 3rd to the 18th century.
Yet the description of Jerusalem in the next few verses belies a spiritual interpretation. It talks of Jerusalem in physical terms. But behold, it does not look like Jerusalem in the days of the united monarchy of David or Solomon or the divided monarchies of Israel and Judah. Neither is it Jerusalem, which was to be built by the returning Jewish exiles under the leadership of Zerubabbel, Ezra, and Nehemiah. Well what about Jerusalem during the Middle Ages, the era of enlightenment, and even up to the Great Awakening in the United States in the early 19th century? Well, this Jerusalem was just a dry dusty forgotten city on the byways of civilization.
Zechariah 2:2 - So I said, Where are you going?
And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem,
To see what its width and what is its length”
This has the appearance of literal measuring of the size of Jerusalem at the time of the end. That should not be difficult, for the city was surrounded by walls which demarcated the extent of the city limits. Right? Well let us not be so hasty.
Zechariah 2:3 – And there was the angel who talked with me, going out;
And another angel was coming out to meet him, who said to him,
The angelic messenger, in chapter one, who clarified the mission of the horses and riders, is now met by another angelic messenger. It is to be assumed that this second angelic messenger is carrying a message from the Throne of God to Zechariah. Here we are seeing an insider’s view of the hierarchy and communications systems from the Throne of God to at least one of His created planets, the planet earth.
Jerusalem inhabited as “Towns without walls”
Zechariah 2:4 - “Run, speak to this young man, saying:
‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls,
Because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.’”
This angelic messenger appears to come in haste and his first command is “Run”. If we can assume that Zechariah is the intended object, then he is being referred to as a young man. In 520 BCE, it is assumed that Zechariah was less than twenty years of age, since manhood began at thirteen at his Bar Mitzvah.
Jerusalem the City without Walls fronted by the Old City of Jerusalem – Photos by Robert Mock
As such the man holding the measuring line could not define the exact boundaries of the city. Modern suburbia was not a known zoning feature in ancient cities. Jerusalem remained a walled city under Moslem domination until the 20th century. This visual concept of Jerusalem as a city without walls, something like modern suburbia, can only be imagined like modern cities with multiple towns within a metropolis. This can only be a description of the modern day Jerusalem today.
Knowing the modern history of the Nation of Israel, we know that this scene could only have occurred after May 15, 1948, when the Nationhood of Israel came into existence. Yet the city of Jerusalem in 1948 did not have any of the appearances of modern city with suburbia until after 1967, when Israel in the Six-Day War took full possession of the entire city of Jerusalem. Here we now see the building of “towns without walls” with the construction of a modern Jerusalem. It is today seen as a city of skyscrapers and high-rise buildings and the sprawling suburbia surrounding the Old City of David and the New Western City of modern Jerusalem.
The Wall of Fire – The Cherubim of God
Zechariah 2:5 – “For I”, ‘says the Lord, “will be a Wall of Fire all around her,
And I will be the Glory in her midst.’”
The Shekinah glory as the presence of HaShem, the God of Israel, stood in the midst of the Sanctuary over the mercy seal of the Ark of the Covenant and thereby in the middle of the camp of Israel in the wilderness. The pillar of fire resided over the sanctuary and it led the Children of Israel to where their next destination was to be. Isaiah 66, which is also another end time chapter of prophecy states:
Isaiah 66:1 – “Thus says the Lord: Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house (Temple) that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? (Temple) For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist.”
The house of the Lord was the Temple of God and only in the Sanctuary or the Temple, where the Ark of the Covenant resided did the Shekinah glory dwell. The place of My rest is also another reference to the Temple of the Lord.
1 Chronicles 28:2 – “Then King David rose to his feet and said, ‘Hear me, my brethren and my people; I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God, and had made preparation to build it. But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name, because you have been a man of war and have shed blood. However the Lord God of Israel chose me above all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever, for He has chosen Judah to be the ruler.
Psalms 132:8, 14 – “Arise O Lord, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength….For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place: This is My resting place forever.
When the temple was destroyed, it meant in a literal sense to the Jewish people that the presence of HaShem, their God, was no longer within their midst. The resting place of the Lord was no longer in contact with this three dimensional world. HaShem’s foot, the bottom or base of the Sefirot of the Divine was no longer in contact with God’s chosen anchor place on this planet earth, Jerusalem or Zion. That is why it was so important for the Jewish People to quickly build a house for the Lord upon their return from Babylon, even before the city walls were totally repaired.
According to the mystical Jews, God (HaShem) as the Source of Infinite Energy, localized a portion of his Being in the visible manifestation of the Shekinah. The structure of the World of the Divine, the “Image”, in which Adam was created was called a “Sefirot”. We will look at the Sefirot, the Image of God more closely later on in the Book of Zechariah.
How was this light source different? Today, if one saw a hovering light in the middle of the room and not in connection with any energy source, such as electricity or gas, the scientific, psychic, and normal populous would all be in rapt attendance. As such, the populous of the Hebrew exiles recognized that HaShem’s presence whether in the Shekinah or the Pillar of Fire was an extra-dimensional phenomenon that was recognizable by all observers present.
What then is the “wall of fire” around Jerusalem? Was this to be in the form of a visible electro-magnetic protective shield? In this three dimensional world, this form of a phenomenon, would immediately depict an extra-dimensional manifestation beyond the capacity of modern military technology, until the “invisible” Scalar weaponry was developed by Russian and Israeli military industry. Will this be an angelic shield that surrounds and protects Jerusalem in the Gog-Magog assault?
Let us go back and refresh out biblical history to the time of King Jehoram of Israel, when Ben-Hadad, the king of Syria was making raids into the land of Israel. For some reason, plans formulated in the military command center within the tent of Ben-Hadad, with his top military generals, were immediately made known to the king of Israel. Today some scholars call this remote viewing. Suspecting that there was a “deep-throat” or a mole within their camp, King Ben-Hadad was informed that this spy was none other than the Prophet Elisha, head of Israel’s School of the Prophets, who was living at Dotham, north, north-east to the capital city of Samaria.
Painted by Diameter Morel; Bansko school; tempera on wood; 127 x 84 cm.
The Prophet Elisha early one morning awakened within the walled encampment of Dotham and looked outside the city walls and there surrounding the city was the Syrian army with horses and chariots. What were they there for? They were there to pick up this “spy”, the prophet Elisha, who was receiving secret military planning by ESP (Extra-sensory perception). Elisha’s servant was in distress, “What shall we do?” Listen now to Elisha’s account of this experience.
2 Kings 6:17 – “So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
Was this encounter of Elisha and his servant also a description or a mini-drama of the “Wall of Fire”, which will surround Jerusalem in the time of the end, cosmic hosts of horses and chariots? Then our next question must be what are the horses and chariots?
The Chariots or Cherubim of God
Well this was not the only experience that Elisha had with the horses and chariots. As a young man and the appointed successor of the revered founder and leader of the School of the Prophets, Elijah, they both were traveling together to a site east of the Jordan River. The text states:
2 Kings 2:11 - “They went on, talking as they went, and suddenly there appeared chariots of fire and horses of fire, which separated them one from the other, and Elijah was carried up in the whirlwind to heaven.”
What an experience? Common pictures of Elijah’s rapture while he was transported to that other dimensional spiritual sphere called heaven we see a classic fiery steed, carrying behind a classic war chariot known well throughout all the Middle East. Read the text again though. It says that there appeared, like a sudden mysterious transformation, chariots of fire in the plural and horses in the plural. And in a mini-catastrophic drama of a whirlwind, Elijah was swooped up into heaven, by a cavalry of mobile vehicles with all the brilliance of cosmic fire. Yet this did not occur before he was able to cast back to Elijah his tefillin, the sacred blue-fringed shawl that all Rabbis and observant Hebrews used while praying to HaShem.
Later when King David was laying out the architectural plans for the most gorgeous building site in the Middle East, the Temple to Yahweh, he presented to his son, Solomon the heir regent, details concerning the building of the massive Ark of the Covenant. Look at what he said were the chariots of God as he was transferring the custody of the building of the Temple to Solomon.
I Chronicles 28:18 - “He prepared….the weight also of refined gold for the model of the chariot, that is the cherubim with their wings outspread to screen the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. ‘All this was drafted by the Lord’s own hand,’ said David; ‘my part was to consider the detailed working out of the plan.”
When Solomon commissioned the building of the Temple and the Holy Place, within the Holy of Holiest he built two large cherubim of olive wood overlaid with gold.
The Cherubim on the Ark of the Covenant
I Kings 6:19-30 - “He prepared an inner shrine in the furthest recesses of the house to receive the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. This inner shrine was twenty cubits square and it stood twenty cubits high; he overlaid it with red gold and made an altar of cedar. And Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with red gold and drew a Veil with golden chains across in front of the inner shrine. The whole house he overlaid with gold until it was all covered; and the whole of the altar by the inner shrine he overlaid with gold.
In the inner shrine he made two cherubim of wild olive, each ten cubits high. Each wing of the cherubim was five cubits long, and from wing-tip to wing-tip was ten cubits. Similarly the second cherub measured ten cubits; the two cherubim were alike in size and shape, and each ten cubits high. He put the cherubim within the shrine at the furthest recesses and the wings were outspread, so that a wing of the one cherub touched the wall on one side and a wing of the other touched the wall on the other side, and their other wings met in the middle; and he overlaid the cherubim with gold.
Round all the walls of the house he carved figures of cherubim, palm-trees, and open flowers, both in the inner chamber and in the outer. The floor of the house he overlaid with gold, both in the inner chamber and in the outer.”
Converting the measurement of the biblical cubit as approximately 18 inches, the cherubim were 15 feet tall and the wing measurement from the tip of one wing to the other was also 15 feet. Together, the two cherubim covered a span of 30 feet in the Holy of Holiest in the Temple of Solomon.
King David should have known about God’s chariots or cherubim for he also took a ride in one of them. This is recorded in two accounts in scripture, 2 Samuel 22: 7-22 and Psalms 18:6-17. Let us picture David, the anointed heir to the throne, when he was hunted as a mercenary leader of Israel’s enemies, the Philistines. He leaves us with this record of a divine deliverance, when he was trapped between Mount Carmel jutting out into sea and the Mediterranean ocean as he was cornered by the army of Saul.
Psalms 18:6-17 - “I called for help to my God; he heard me from his temple, and my cry reached his ears. The earth heaved and quaked, the foundations of the mountains shook; they heaved, because he was angry. Smoke rose from his nostrils, devouring fire came out of his mouth, glowing coals, and searing heat.
He swept the skies aside as he descended; thick darkness lay under his feet. He rode on a cherub, he flew through the air; He swooped on the wings of the wind, He made darkness around him his hiding-place and dense vapor his canopy.
Thick clouds came out of the radiance before him hailstones and glowing coals. The Lord thundered from the heaven and the voice of the Most High spoke out. He loosed his arrows, he sped them far and wide, he shot forth lightning shaft and sent them echoing. The channels of the sea-bed were revealed, the foundations of earth laid bare at the Lord’s rebuke, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. He reached down from the height and took me, he drew me out of mighty waters, he rescued me from my enemies, strong as they were, from my foes when they grew too powerful for me.”
The Cherubim Towering over the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holiest of Solomon’s Temple
Oh yes, we see this as a spiritual picture of deliverance with all the poetic prose which David was so famous. We disbelieve these passages in their literal translation, because it appears so fantastic and beyond our comprehension with our physical humans senses. So our arrogance and our disbelief keep us from believing that the Lord of hosts has other energy sources and transport vehicles, which are beyond our present scientific knowledge. Cheer up! God is bigger than you and I. He has the command of the Universe. Instead of limiting God by our disbelief and arrogance, why not watch and observe to see what He wants to reveal Himself to us.
Here in the midst of a catastrophic event are dramatic scenes reminiscent of the Exodus. Look at the elements of nature when the Chariots of God enter our three dimensional world: radiant fire, thundering, lightning, earthquakes in the subterranean continental plates, smoke, hailstones, and burning lava showers. Are we witnessing a volcanic eruption? Actually we are witnessing the transporting vehicle as God arrives to this earth. From every appearance it is a flying mechanical, yet a living vehicle not unlike the futurist’s dream of developing a biological self-renewing car or plane. This cherubim was enshrouded with darkness and a dense canopy or a vapor shield. Yes, but that is only part of the picture.
When the Lord of hosts personally invades into our three dimensional world, the powerful energy forces of His Divine Being, also come with catastrophic changes upon this earth; earthquakes, shifting of tectonic plates under the earth, strings of volcanoes, falling meteors and asteroids, and cosmic fiery bolides.
This same type of an event also occurred before to the children of Israel. This time it was in the wilderness of Sinai as they watched the descent of the Lord of hosts coming down from the heavenly Throne to meet with his people, the descendents of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The mount was erupting with fire and fallen fiery bolides. The land quaked and tons of ash and smoke billowed into the air. Here stood the Mount of the Lord called Sinai. Yet within all this visible and terrifying drama, a cosmic event was occurring.
The Lord of Hosts arriving on the Mount called Sinai
Psalms 68:17-18 - “Twice ten thousand were God’s chariots, thousands upon thousands, when the Lord came in holiness from Sinai. Thou didst go up to thy lofty home with captives in thy train, having received tribute from men; in the presence of the Lord God no rebel could live.
Once again, we are faced with a strange and unearthly scene. Thousands and thousands of chariots were descending with the Lord of hosts in a scene similar to that seen by Elijah and his servant circling the city walls of Dothan. But what was the purpose of the chariots and do we dare believe the unbelievable that we are seeing a ‘type’ of a live mini-drama of the future and the final rapture of the saints as they are taken to heaven by Yehoshua (Jesus) when He comes in the “clouds of glory”?
Who were these “captives in thy train”, except a visual image of a remnant of Israelites taken to heaven as a “tribute” and a living testimony of that day when HaShem revealed Himself in the Torah with His people at the base of Mount called Sinai. Take a gasp. Yes, the description appears in literal terms to describe a group of Israelites raptured or transported into heaven, after God descends down with his chariots (angels) and later He takes them home with Him.
The Hebrew for “captive” comes from the prime root shabah (shaw-baw), meaning to transport into captivity, to bring or carry away. (Strong’s 7616) or as the KJV states, ‘to take captive captive.’
Why would the Lord of hosts want to capture or take an Israelite captive? First we must accept one assumption. We are not free people. We either are slaves to Satan and the powers of lust, power, greed, and the forces of control, or we can become ‘bondservants’ to God. Either way, slaves we are. One type of slavery binds us against our will and the other type of slavery, surprisingly come only by free will, this time to bond us to God, or to accept servitude under the God Himself. You say, I want to be my own person! I want to be free! Sorry! Your freedom only comes with servitude. Remember Eleazar, the bond servant of Abraham. He had power, authority and prestige. If Abraham did not have a son, Eleazar would have been the rightful heir to the heritage and fortune of Abraham. In essence, every time God invades or intercepts our planet earth, it appears that He also redeems some of the citizens on this planet earth, who are slaves and hostages to the demonic powers of darkness. But by doing so, they become free as bondservants of the Most High.
Did Jesus ride in Two Separate Chariot or Cherubim Trips to Heaven?
This reminds us of another text of scripture, this time by the Rabbi Shaul, the Apostle Paul. He was speaking to the Ephesians in the context of being a prisoner for the Lord’s sake (Ephesians 4:1), and discussing the gift’s that were given by Christ as He ascended back to heaven after His crucifixion and resurrection. And then Paul made this statement.
Ephesians 4:8 - “He (Yehoshua) ascended into the heights with captives in his train; He gave gifts to men.” (NEB)
Wait a second! Here is another text like the prior text about the Lord of hosts ascending back to heaven from Mount Sinai. We well know the story of the ascension of Christ. Or do we? What ascension are we talking about? There were two. One was after the resurrection of Christ near the garden on the Mount of Olives and the second was also from the Mount of Olives as He bid His last farewell to His disciples.

When Jesus arose from the tomb just after the setting of the sun at the eve of Shabbat, or the Sabbath, He still had not gone to the presence of His Father to receive confirmation that His mission of redemption was complete. Jesus was the firstborn from the dead (Colossians 1:18, Revelation 1:5) and the first-fruits of those that are asleep, or the first- fruits of the harvest of the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:20, 23) May we ask, when were the first-fruits harvested and does it give us any clues as to when He ascended or passed through that inter-dimensional gate to the heavenly spheres.
The Festival of the Passover was followed by a second festival, which came on the 1st day after the seventh-day Shabbat or Sabbath after the Passover. This was called the Festival of the First-Fruits. The Passover Seder could occur on any day of the week and that day was called a Shabbat or Sabbath also. Yet the waving of the first-fruits would occur only on the following Sunday.
By the best calculations we have, Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, with the Passover Seder occurring after sundown on Wednesday, in the midst of the week. This confirmed the 70 week prophecy of Daniel, when it stated:
Daniel 9:27 - “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering….”
Since the Passover was also a Shabbat, called a High Day by the Apostle John (John 19:31, compare with Exodus 12:16), it was differentiated from the weekly Seventh-day Sabbath. When the Festival of First Fruits arrived, it was now Saturday evening, after the setting of the sun. At this time, the priests crossed over the causeway to the Mount of Olives and there in the barley fields planted at the base, they harvested the first-fruits of the barley harvest.
Here we have all the typology of the Festivals intact. Yahshua fulfilled every movement and act that the Passover Pesach Lamb performed for Yahshua was the Literal Passover Lamb. Jesus had been in the grave for three days, Thursday, Friday, and the Saturday Sabbath, plus three nights, Wednesday eve night, Thursday eve night, and Friday eve night. As such He also fulfilled the “Sign of the Prophet Jonah” (Matthew 12:39-41, Luke 29-32) while He was in the grave for three days and three nights.
Yehoshua, the Gardener and Miriamne of Magdala
Using these types to their strictest interpretation, Jesus arose from the dead just after the setting of the sun on Saturday evening, or the eve of the 1st day of the week. Yet before sunrise the next day, Mary Magdalene was at the grave to pay her respects to the One she loved. The tomb was empty. And then she saw the gardener, to whom she pleaded as to where be the body of Yehoshua. Jesus said to her, “Miriam” and then she recognized Him. As she reached out to Him, Jesus quickly exclaimed;
John 20:17 - “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”
By evening time that very day, Jesus had ascended to His Father on the Throne in heaven, walked with the two disciples, Cleopas and the other man which was probably Luke, and by evening walked through the door into the locked Upper Room to meet with the rest of the disciples at the Upper Room. This is why in all of our speculations about inter-dimensional travel, we must realize the limitations about our own knowledge and capacity to understand.
As the sun peaked over the Mount of Olives on the eastern slope, on the Temple Mount, the High Priest, at the morning sacrifice, was waving the sheaves of first fruits before the altar of God. At the same time, Jesus was traversing that inter-dimensional veil between this earth and heaven and presented Himself before His Father as the “First-Fruit of the Dead”
But that is not all. Just prior to Pentecost, during the forty days of Omer, Yehoshua (Yahshua) took His disciples to the Mount of Olives towards Bethany and while He blessed them, He ascended up into heaven and a cloud enveloped Him from their site. (Luke 24:50-51, Acts 1:9-10)
Let us now ask one question, How did Jesus get to heaven? By whatever means that He was traveling, as soon as He saw Mary Magdalene just prior to the break of dawn, He was in route to the Throne of God and presented Himself to His Father at the same time the High Priest was offering up the first-fruits of the barley harvest on the first Day of the Feast of the First-fruits, Sunday morning. By evening time, He had returned to this earth, probably no more than 10 hours earth time and was on the road to Emmaus talking with the two disciples. At the evening meal, He was partaking with them; He blessed the food and then disappeared. Now give us enough time for the two disciples to run back to Jerusalem, seven miles, and Jesus again appeared to the disciples in the Upper Room, when He walks through a closed and locked door.
“What foolish things you ask”, you reply to me, “for trying to understand spiritual and other-dimensional events.” Why? Your children ask these same questions. Daddy, how long does it take for me to get to heaven when Jesus comes? How are we going to get to heaven? Everyone has secretly or openly asked these questions. Well, did Jesus also ride in a heavenly chariot like Elijah and as we shall see in a minute Ezekiel? There is no description given, but that ever present cloud is always there, just as described in the Chariots of God in Ezekiel 1:4.
Ezekiel 1:4 – “The I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and brightness was all around it and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures.”
But there is one more fact. The events at the time of the end, when Jesus returns back to this earth, appears to act like a movie running in reverse when Jesus was raised from the dead and ascended back to His Father. At the time of the crucifixion of Jesus, the disciples and witnesses at the cross experienced a cataclysmic event. Matthew describes it as such:
Matthew 27:50-51 - “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.”
Here we see a Special Resurrection. Here also we see a strange parallel to the Second Coming of Jesus. In Matthew, we see Christ “giving up His Spirit”, that “Image of God”, in the midst of the week. At the same time, the veil of the temple was torn open when the mantle that held the curtain split and fell. The Holy of Holiest was laid bare for all see inside. At that same hour there was an earthquake in which rocky boulders were split and the rock tombs were opened. The dead saints sleeping were not resurrected until three and one-half more days. Then Christ is resurrected on the eve of the 15st day, at sundown, as the first-fruit of the dead, then there appeared another earthquake, and this time the saints were raised from the dead and they went about the city of Jerusalem witnessing to their resurrection.
Let us now go to Revelation and read about the Two Witnesses in chapter eleven.
Revelation 11:7- “When they (two witnesses) finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them overcome them and kill them. And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city (Jerusalem)….Now after three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them and they stood on their feet…and they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them ‘Come up here.’ And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them. In the same hour there was a great earthquake….Then the seventh angel sounded…then the temple of God was opened in heaven and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple….earthquakes and great hail.
The Ascension into the Two Witnesses into a Cloud
The two witnesses appear to represent Jesus here on earth. When their testimony, like His was completed, they are killed and lie dead for three-and-a-half days. Then God sends the breath of life back to them in a resurrection like Christ’s. They are then transported to heaven in the same manner like Jesus did after His resurrection, also cloaked in that mysterious cloud.
Let us not forget though the saints who are resurrected just after Jesus is resurrected from the Garden Tomb. What happens to them? Tradition states that they also went to heaven after their testimony in the city of Jerusalem. For they are the first-fruits of those that sleep in Christ, while the general resurrection at the Second Coming of Jesus are represented by the those who were resurrected at the time of Jesus and taken back with Him, as “captives in His train”. Yet this was not the only time, Yahshua was transported by a Cherubim.
At the very first of Jesus’ ministry, we see the former “anointed cherub that covereth”, called Lucifer, now called Satan, (Ezekiel 28:12-13 ) transporting Jesus to the Temple parapet. He then carries Him to a high mountain and then abandons Him when Yahshua did not pay homage to the devil. Let us look at the text.
Matthew 4: 5-11 - “The devil then took him to the Holy City and set him on the parapet of the Temple. ‘If you are the Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down; for Scripture says, “He will put his angels in charge of you, and they will support you in their arms, for fear you should strike your foot against a stone.”’ Jesus answered him, ‘Scripture days again, “You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.”
Once again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their glory. ‘All these’, he said, ‘I will give you, if you will only fall down and do me homage.’ But Jesus said, ‘Be gone, Satan! Scriptures says, “You shall do homage to the Lord your God and worship him alone.’”
Then the devil left him; and angels appeared and waited on him.”
Once again we see a heavenly being with the capacity to transport a human across long stretches of land like, to the top of a building wall precipice, more than forty stories tall, and later to the peak of a mighty mountain, like the snowy Mount Herman in northern Israel.
Cherubim carried Ezekiel to the River Kebar
Yet the picture of the mysterious heavenly aerial vehicles of God get even more descriptive with the pen of the prophet Ezekiel with his awe, frightening, and terrifying encounter with this heavenly vehicle.
Ezekiel 3:12-14 - “Then a spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me a fierce rushing sound as the glory of the Lord rose from his place. I heard the sound of the living creature’ wings brushing against one another, the sound of the wheels beside them, and a fierce rushing sound. A spirit lifted me and carried me along, and I went full of exaltation, the hand of the Lord strong upon me. So I came to the exiles at Tel-abib who were settled by the River Kebar. For seven days I stayed with them, dumbfounded.”
The prophet, when he arrived on this heavenly vehicle to the River Kebar, had a similar human response of emotional overload as reported today in stories of alien abduction. The difference being, the spiritual atmosphere that surrounded the experience that left such a profound impact in sacred writings to this day.
Well, after this event, Ezekiel once again meets the cherubim, called living creatures. This time, he is awe-struck for behold he is observing the very Throne of God sitting upon four cherubim parked on the right side of the Temple of the Lord in heaven. It was not as a static picture, but in living color with all the sounds, motions, and drama associated with the movement of this movable throne.
Ezekiel 10:1-22 - “Then I saw, above the vault over the heads of the cherubim, as it were a throne of Sapphire visible above them. The Lord said to the man dressed in linen, ‘Come in between the circling wheels under the cherubim, and take a handful of the burning embers lying among the cherubim; then toss them over the city.’ So he went in before my eyes.”
The cherubim stood on the right side of the temple as a man enters, and a cloud filled the inner court. The glory of the Lord rose high from above the cherubim and moved on to the terrace; and the temple was filled with the cloud, while the radiance of the glory of the Lord filled the court. The sound of the wings of the cherubim could be heard as far as the outer court, as loud as if God Almighty were speaking. Then he told the man dressed in linen to take fire from between the circling wheels and among the cherubim. The man came and stood by a wheel, and a cherub from among the cherubim put its hand into the fire that lay among them, and, taking some fire, gave it to the man dressed in linen; and he received it and went out.”
Under the wings of the cherubim there appeared what seemed a human hand. And I saw four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub. They had the sparkle of Topaz, and all four were alike, like a wheel inside a wheel. When the cherubim moved in any of the four directions, they never swerved in their course; they went straight on in the direction in which their heads were turned, never swerving in their course. Their whole bodies, their backs and hands and wings, as well as the wheel were full of eyes all round the four of them. The whirring of the wheels sounded in my ears. Each had four faces; the first was that of a cherub, the second that of a man, the third that of a lion, and the fourth that of an eagle.
Then the cherubim raised themselves up, those same living creatures I had seen by the river Kebar. When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them; when the cherubim lifted their wings and rose from the ground, the wheels did not turn away from beside them. When the one halted, the other halted; when the one rose, the other rose; for the spirit of the creatures was in the wheels. Then the glory of the Lord left the temple terrace and halted above the cherubim. The cherubim lifted their wings and raised themselves from the ground; I watched them go with the wheels beside them. They halted at the eastern gateway of the Lord’s house, and the glory of the God of Israel was over them.
Isaiah 66: 15 - “For see, the Lord is coming in fire, with his chariots like a whirlwind, to strike home with his furious anger, and with the flaming fire of his reproof.”
It was the prophet Daniel who so eloquently saw this transfer of sovereignty from the Eternal One, called the Ancient of Years to His son, Yahshua, called “the man”, when He will come in the clouds of heaven.
Daniel 7:13 - “I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.
Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.”
Not until Yehoshua, sitting with his disciples began to speak on the events at the end of the ages, do we see a panorama of the eschatological events at the time of the end portrayed in the New Testament. What we do see are the same descriptive events; clouds, power, glory, trumpets, lightning, a descending arrival, but one thing is different. The word cherubim are now called an angels.
Yahshua on a White Horse coming in the Clouds with Myriads of Angels
Matthew 24:27, 31 - “Like lightning from the east, flashing as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then will appear in heaven the sign that heralds the Son of Man. All the peoples of the world will make lamentation, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with great power and glory. With a trumpet blast he will send out his angels (cherubim), and they will gather his chosen from the four winds, from the farthest bounds of heaven on every side.”
Matthew 26:64 - “From now on, you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of God and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Mark 13:26 “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory, and he will send out the angels (cherubim) and gather his chosen from the four winds, from the farthest bounds of earth to the farthest bounds of heaven.”
I Thessalonians 4:15-18 - “We who are left alive until the Lord comes shall not forestall those who have died; because at the word of command, at the sound of the archangel’s voice and God’s trumpet call, the Lord himself will descend from heaven. First the dead in Christ will rise, then we who are left alive shall join them, caught up in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
Revelation 14:14 - “Then as I looked there appeared a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like a Son of Man. He had on his head a crown of gold and in his hand a sharp sickle.”
As BibleSearchers and with an interest in understanding the sacred writ in a literal sense, we sense that maybe the organization of the civilization of heaven is truly something we can recognize as humans today. Is it possible that heaven is not a lot different than life on earth except one thing, heaven will be God-centered and not man centered. The alternative form of existence that Satan has set up on earth is almost a carbon-copy of God’s universal kingdom, except it is centered on power, greed and authority. Self-seeking, self-centered, and self-sufficiency are all descriptions of a world that is becoming more and more corrupt and more and more evil.
A serious look at the transportation system of HaShem, the God of heaven, is still a dream of the futurist of today. By every appearance, the Lord of hosts and every other heavenly being who travel across the universe, travel on living vehicles that are guided by extra-sensory mind control of the driver. As the Israelites that were chosen to return to the heavenly dimensions at the time of covenant at the Mount called Sinai, to the rescue of King David, to the great prophet Elijah and his transport back to the spiritual realms on the cherubim, and the citizens who were resurrected just after Yahshua was resurrected from the grave, so the saints at the end of the ages, will find themselves riding in the most marvelous dream cars, that are living biological, mind-controlled transport vehicles.
Flee and Return to the Land of Israel
Zechariah 2:6 – “Up, up! Flee from the land of the north,” says the Lord;
“For I have spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,”
says the Lord,
The first call to return to Zion occurred during the reign of time of Cyrus the Great, around 538 BCE. Almost twenty years later, Zechariah would warn Israel and Judah to drop and leave all your possessions and flee from the land of the North. Today, we note that the lands of Syria and Turkey are now in the present northern region. Also we note that all invaders also came from the Land of the North as they followed the Fertile Crescent. (See Land of the North in Jeremiah 1:14, 15; 4:6)
Prior to the fall of Babylon, the priestly caste fled Babylon and went to Pergamum, in the center of modern day Turkey. The Zoroastrian priesthood of the Persians took over the Temple sites in the conquered land of Babylon while the Chaldean priesthood escaped to relocate their religion in the Temple of Pergamum, which lay directly north to the Land of Israel.
As a commercial center, Babylon, under the sovereignty of the Persian rulers still was a potent commercial center and a haven for Jews in exile who were reluctant to leave their businesses, their positions of economic status, and their life of pleasure.
Zechariah 2:7 – “Up, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”
Daughters of Babylon – see Psalms 137:8
Daughters of Zion – see Isaiah 52:2; Lam 4:22, Zechariah 2:10.
Here is the call to escape from the land of Babylon. Even though the land was at rest as noted in chapter one, portents of war were brewing in the region in which would forever place this land in a desolate no-man’s land. HaShem, their God, was warning them to move out of harm’s way.
Today, any of the Lost Tribes of Israel living in the Lands of Turkey, Syria, and Babylon who the God of Israel will show them their identity, would better heed the warning of Hashem. Flee today, to the Land of Israel (Eriv Israel). While the Almighty One may be preparing them to flee, the rabbabim in the Land of Israel are struggling with how to prepare a Torah based halachah on accepting non-Jewish Hebrews back to the Land of their forefathers.
Zechariah 2:8 – For thus says the Lord of hosts:
“He sent Me (Angel of the Lord) after glory,
To the nations which plunder you;
This is an obscure verse and translated “after his glory sent me”.(RSV) The meaning of this text suggests that the glory of God will be revealed by His manifest protection of His people. Who is “Me” and who is the manifest “glory of God”. This Being is the incarnate Yahshua in His precarnate state, identified by this author as the “Angel of the Lord”, the Leading Archangel, the Keter (Crown) of the Angelic World, and the Navel (Tiferet or Beauty) of the World of the Divine.
Here we see in the text, the Lord of Hosts is sending the “Angel of the Lord” to manifest the Glory of the God of Israel to the nations that are plundering Israel. As it was in the days of Zechariah, so it also will be fulfilled in the final drama at the end of the ages. Yehoshua (Jesus) will again be sent to manifest the Glory of God. As the Angel of the Lord, Yahshua will return at that fateful moment, when the existence of the Nation of Israel and the entire Jewish and redeemed Lost Tribes of the House of Israel, the House of Joseph/Ephraim appear to be extinguished forever. When the nations of world gather together at Armageddon and the ministry and power of the Two Witnesses are extinguished by their deaths, then Yehoshua, the Moschiach ben David to the Jews and the Messiah son of Joseph to the Christians, will return as the Warrior King of kings to annihilate the armies of the Evil One.
With warnings of war circling the Middle East today, and the anticipation of a Gog-Magog assault on the Land of Israel during some future Succot (Fall Feast of Tabernacles), it is well to remind us of Ezekiel when he wrote:
Ezekiel 39:22, 38:23 - “So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day forward…I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”
Touches the Apple (pupil) of His (Hashem’s) Eye.
Zechariah 2:8b - “For he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.”
What a beautiful passage! It reminds us of our childhood arrogant security, when we confront a potential bully, “If you touch me, my daddy will beat up your daddy.” When a person is threatened, the most defensive maneuver is to throw up our hands and shield our face and eyes.

For a decade, I worked part time as an Emergency Room physician. Patients arriving into the emergency room many times in the greatest of distress were those with a corneal abrasion, or a scratch in the cornea of the eye. The most vulnerable part of the body is the eye, and the most vulnerable part of the eye is the cornea and pupil. When the sclera (white part) of the eye is damaged, there is minimal pain. When the cornea is touched or damaged, the pain is very intense.
This highlights the intense feelings that the Lord of hosts places for His people, the children of Israel. It is inconceivable to a parent to have such intense feelings of care and concern for one’s child, and then walk away and abandon them when they rebel or refuse to yield to their parent’s will. Yet why is it so prevalent within the Christian Church, those who consider themselves “Spiritual Israelites”, to even consider that the Lord of hosts will walk away and abandon His own selected children, the people of the Promise and abrogate His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and later to King David, when they rebel against their Father in heaven, the Almighty One of Israel?
Compare the above analogy with the following statement.
“As the navel is set in the center of the human body,
so is the Land of Israel the Navel of the world…
situated in the center of the world,
and Jerusalem in the center of the Land of Israel,
and the Sanctuary in the center of Jerusalem,
and the Holy Place in the center of the Sanctuary,
and the Ark in the center of the Holy Place,
and the Foundation Stone before the Holy Place,
because, from it the world was founded.
Midrash Tanchuma, Qedoshim, http://www.foigm.org/IMG.timetemp.htm
Zechariah 2:9 – “For surely I will shake My hand against them,
and they shall become spoil for their servants.”
With the flick of the “wrist” of the Angel of the Lord, the nations making their assault to destroy Israel will become spoil for the people, who in the past, were always in service to these nations. For the people who were reviled by Adolf Hitler as the “scum of the earth” will now see the role of history to reverse for them.
“Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.”
Yehoshua (Jesus), as the Angel of the Lord, is also notifying House of Judah, that when He comes, He will also bring His credentials that He was sent by Hashem, the God of Israel. Saviors without credentials are not always appreciated. Our own pride and arrogance many times does not allow us to appreciate those who are sent by God for our spiritual or physical welfare.
Zechariah 2:10 – “Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion!
For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord.
Celebration is directed to Israel, the daughter of Zion. Here, the Angel of the Lord coming at the time of the end, the long awaited Maschiach ben David, has already been revealed as Yahshua ben Joseph ben David, and He (Yahshua) will dwell as the King of kings and Lord of lords within the midst of Zion during the Millennium.
Zechariah 2:11 – “Many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day,
and they shall become My people.
And I will dwell in your midst.
Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you.”
A great revival and celebration will occur within the gentile nations which remain after the holocaust of Armageddon, and they shall become “adopted” sons of Hashem, brothers of Yahshua (Lord). Whereas the credentials of a true prophet is a fulfilled prophecy, the credentials of the true Messiah will be the literal manifestation of Yahshua coming back to dwell on this earth as King Yahshua. If this not the message of the Angel Gabriel to Miriam (Mary) when Gabriel said,
Luke 1:30-33 - “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Yehoshua. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.
Zechariah 2:12 – And the Lord will take possession of Judah
as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem.
Yahshua, called “Lord” will take possession of Judah, as His inheritance as the son of Hashem. The inheritance will be the navel, or the center of the earth and the foundation stone, where creation on this earth all began.
Zechariah 2:13 – Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord,
for He is aroused from His holy habitation!”
When the Lord God begins to move, all the universes stands still. According to rabbinic literature, the hidden and unseen Ein Sof, though always active within the universe, at times chooses to retreat behind the veil of the Daat. This concept was portrayed within the Holy of Holiest, when for periods of time the Shekinah Glory remained hidden behind the veil that separated the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. Mankind has a tendency to forget that God does dwell within our midst. Yet, when the awesome power of the Lord of hosts is unveiled and the Glory of His magnificence is revealed, all creation stops in breathless awe.

Message from BibleSearchers
BibleSearchers scans the world for information that has relevance on the time of the end. It is our prayer that this will allow the believers in the Almighty One of Israel to “watch and be ready”. Our readiness has nothing to do trying to halt the progression of evil on our planet earth. In our readiness, we seek to be prepared for the coming of the Messiah of Israel so that goodness and evil will be manifested in its fullest. Our preparation is a pathway of spiritual readiness for a world of peace. Our defender is the Lord of hosts. The time of the end suggests that the Eternal One of Israel’s intent is to close out this chapter of earth’s history so that the perpetrators of evil, those that seek power, greed and control, will be eliminated from this planet earth. The wars of the heavens are being played out on this planet earth and humans will live through it to testify of the might, power, justice and the love of the God of Israel. In a world of corruption and disinformation, we cannot always know what the historical truth is and who is promoting evil or mis-information. We cannot guarantee our sources but we will always seek to portray trends that can be validated in the Torah and the testimony of the prophets of the Old and the New Testament.
